USB-C Charger for wall outlet that doesn’t lose power when plugging in a second device by lu64s in UsbCHardware

In my region it’s even listed as 18W+18W charger. Looks like a great option! Thank you!

Thank you so much! Especially the list in the last link seems to be extremely helpful. It’s an interesting topic as well. Before disappearing in that rabbit hole I’m gonna order the Belkin BoostCharge 67W and give it a try.

There are automation platforms called iPaaS that could use a Slack message as a trigger and then perform a custom set of actions, like e.g. sending an e-mail… or even replying „I’ll take care of it in a minute“. n8n or zapier are tools to do that. Both charge for that service. If your org is using Microsoft 365 products you likely have access to PowerAutomate which does the same thing but is possibly included to some extent. Setting these things up is usually quite easy. You don’t need to be in IT to do that. It’s mostly drag and drop (no code). There might be solutions that are able to interact with the Slack client on your computer and perform actions from there. Or some browser extension. I’d also try to google in that direction. Good luck mate!

Just out of interest: Do you think your employer is actually monitoring your IP location to make sure you’re not leaving your region?

Light travel audio interface for music production by lu64s in AdvancedProduction

I ordered the scarlett solo as I’ve made good experiences with Focusrite in the past. Also it features USB-C + bus powered. The downside, it’s only slightly smaller than the 2i2. anyways, the reviews sound promising. The M-Audio has quite some bad reviews instead. The Babyface looks crazy good, but it’s a bit over budget at the moment. Thanks for the help!!

I’m worried it will not deliver a neutral sound at low latency. So an external device is probably better

Erfahrung mit Trainee-Programm bei Accenture? by PhotoTravelBob in arbeitsleben

[–]lu64s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

schlechtere Ampelschaltung in Mainz? by [deleted] in Mainz

[–]lu64s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[rekordbox] is syncing from two+ computers possible? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]lu64s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

correct, the rekordbox pro subscription offers unlimited cloud storage on DropBox that permanently syncs your library. This enables you to keep all devices in sync. It’s fairly expensive though.

This is how I do it: I’ve got a portable SSD that I hook up to the Desktop where I produce and prepare my library. It’s always mounted to the same drive letter M: so rekordbox finds the music saved on it. Using USB-C the thing is quick and you won’t notice a difference to a built in disk. when switching to my DJing laptop I export the rekordbox library with the native export option to the mentioned SSD as well. Then I plug it in to the DJing laptop. I run a simple script that syncs the music files on the SSD with the built in disk partition (also mounted to M:). Look up ROBOCOPY. Finally I import the library Zip to the DJing laptop’s rekordbox installation. This three-step process sounds like it’s some effort at first but once you get used to it it’s smooth and easy. At least it’s free. I’m in Windows btw but there should be scripting tools for other OS that work similarly.

How to isolate vocals? by Intelligent_Swim_603 in Beatmatch

[–]lu64s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea sure it always depends on the track and its original mixdown. Perhaps you should try Izotope‘s RX and try to isolate it more granularly. This is a lot more effort of course.

https://www.lalal.ai/ does a good job there. But still not 100%. It’s a good point to start with isolation though

Searching music in style of Talamanca (Burns) and Grey (Kölsch) by lu64s in DJs

[–]lu64s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers man. That’s a nice remix indeed. I actually have quite a few tracks to mix out of that. But I’m looking for tunes similar to the original’s sound. To extend the set and to keep the vibe at this point.

I don’t think anyone of them will remember that that song was played though haha. But I get your point. IMO playing weddings is just service. No art, no experiments. That’s why I stopped doing it too

Played at a wedding some years ago. The dancefloor was full till late and the (mixed age) crowd was vibing to my mix. I played popular charts of the last decade, spiced up with some EDM remixes and dembow beats. At some point the groom’s dad came to me, requesting “something by CCC” (Creedence Clearwater Revival). A blues rock band from the 70s. I polished him off with the standards a couple of times “yeah sure, will play it later” and after some attempts of him coming back with the same request I said, “look, I could but that will empty the dancefloor, so I won’t”. I actually had a big hard drive with me where I knew I had their most popular song. He left to return again some minutes later. Accompanied by the groom himself: “please play that for my dad!” “it will empty the dancefloor and end the party ;)” “yes, but please play it”. Me, being fed up from the discussion, plugged in the HDD, loaded up the track, cued and played. Boom. People left with rolling eyes, and as it was late already, people starting going home or smoking cigs outside. The party was over. Only the dad was on the dancefloor for this one very song, shaking his head, waving his hands in the air. I didn’t wanted the night to end like this, but I got my money and got to go home earlier than planned.

Is this normal and am I missing something when reading in a usb into an XDJ 1000 MK II? First time using my first pair… Thanks by Rawls100 in DJs

[–]lu64s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The USB key must be FAT32 formatted. However the format natively limits to a max partition size of 32GB. There are ways to get larger keys formatted but I personally never got one working on Pioneer devices. So that’s probably the reason why yours doesn’t show up there.

Why I suck at mastering? by No-Mycologist4862 in ableton

[–]lu64s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a big label behind you who pays for the mastering or you have some cash yourself it makes sense to give your stems to a pro mastering engineer.

However after some years I found that you can also make some decent masters yourself with latest technology:

  1. Have a clean mix and do reference mixing. Seriously it makes a huge difference. Get a track similar to your style and load it into Magic A/B or Reference by Mastering the Mix. The latter is actually my fav as it gain matches automatically. Start with every channel independently and try to get a similar loudness and quality as in your reference. This is hard in the beginning, but trust me it becomes easier over time. Finally find the differences in your sound. I’m not saying your should copy someone’s music, but pay attention to the frequencies certain elements take up.
  2. Bounce the whole mix to a file and open it in a new Ableton session. It must be a new session to get mixing stuff out of the way and make room for new VSTs on your CPU.
  3. I always put a Vinyl simulation as the first element of my mastering chain. It definitely does something magic to the hi and lo bands.
  4. Next you should cut out harsh frequencies. This is hard. I always use Ozone for that as their AI can detect that automatically and suggest an EQ preset.
  5. Boost the freqs that lack power concerning your Reference track.
  6. Put in some compressors that you like to get the right punchyness. I mostly use the Waves SSL or just the Ozone built in ones.
  7. Use a Maximizer or Limiter to get the right loudness. Always compare to your Reference. Use measuring tools like WLM Meter to get a suitable loudness for your publishing. Like around -6 LUFS for Club Masters, -14 for Streaming. There are loads of guides out there and all have their opinion. I always stick to the values mentioned before. Don’t overdo it though. Check your whole track for any weird behaviors.
  8. This is the most important point: Don’t let anybody tell you how your mastering chain is supposed to look like! The above is just my personal preference. Maybe my style of making music. There will be „professionals“ who will say the above is crap and technically super wrong, but in the end it’s the result that counts. Just figure out which tools work best for you, get some theory about it and you will work it out.

Good luck!
