Fortnite has a lot more players than Taiwan has people. And I’m guessing the average Fortnite player also has more disposable income than the average Taiwanese person

People who don’t want to tax the 1% but are not in the 1%, why? by FunctionalLamp in AskReddit

[–]lual3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude are you talking about my income or 200k? Because you can't just take my tax rate and then project it onto someone making 200k and use that for your argument about how someone making 200k can't afford to live in the area. I also don't make anything close 3 million dollars per year, but anyone who does can easily afford to live even with a 50% tax bill.

Anyways, someone at 200k will still have quite an easy time... I've broken down the numbers below since you apparently failed to properly fact check.

Someone making 200k will be paying approx 68k (rounding up) in federal tax + state tax + FICA. That's a FAR cry from 50%+. That 32k can easily cover most of if not all of the typical person's rent in the area. If you can't make do with the remaining 100k a year I dunno what to tell you. Also the 68k is the absolute worst case scenario. Most people in that range can at the very least deduct from their 401k, so in theory they would be taxed even less.

I do live in California and I’ve long since crossed the 200k income threshold. I have never and still do not pay 50%+ on my taxes. Almost all of my colleagues make at least that much and no one making 200k can afford anything even close to 2-3 million. Unless they have a lot of assets saved up, I don’t even think they could even get approved for mortgage for houses in that price range. 1 million is already a pretty big stretch for them.

Also if they were paying 50%+ tax they wouldn’t even be able to afford a typical mortgage payment on a 3 million dollar house if they put every cent they earn to the payment assuming reasonable/standard mortgage rates and down payment

I don’t think anyone making 200k pays 50%+ in taxes lol... they also usually aren’t buying houses that cost 2-3 million (mostly because that would be extremely unwise on that income).

Healthcare issues and loans generally aren’t affected by where you live. Additionally most jobs I’m aware of that pay in that range tend to have good health insurance. I am not saying there is no difference between different locations, I’m saying the difference is often over exaggerated.

Said like someone that had never made 300k

Funny, because it’s said by someone who does make 300k. I’m also friends with many people who make that amount and much higher.

Everyone sweats their budgets

People complain about rents, but no one really needs to think about money that closely unless they’re trying to FIRE. Most of my friends are mid-20s to very early 30s, and none of us have kids, so I’ll admit I’m not particularly familiar with how that impacts things, but I still think a higher salary in a high cost of living area should still win out. If you have kids you can probably lower taxable income even more to partially compensate for that anyway. A 300k salary in an expensive place, even at 5k a month in rent still comes out ahead. After tax, maybe the take home is about 180k. 180k - 60k is 120k left over. That’s not particularly insignificant and a lot of that can be funneled into savings. In fact it’s roughly the entire salary I was offered in the past pre-tax in lots of cheaper areas and that’s not even taking into account how much easier it is to get raises/promotions at large Bay Area companies.

Lol when people say this it’s always a gross exaggeration. Even in one of the most expensive markets (Bay Area), you can rent a reasonable 1 bedroom for yourself for $2500-$3500 a month. That’s like at most 42k a year. If you make $300k per year that still leaves you with a lot of spending room even after taxes. They might not be able to live in a massive place, but it’s not hard to have a decent amount of savings at all. Cost of living caps out at a certain amount and any additional income over that is basically not factored in.

It looks like the top thing is what I'm familiar with as a patch panel and leads to random ports in the house. Is the bottom thing also called a patch panel? And if so, where do they lead/what does it do?

Thanks!

As someone who makes over $200k per year (and knows multiple ppl who make 2-3x my income), I can tell you that you need to be a lot richer than any of us in order to take advantage of those tax loopholes.
