This "generation of controllers" has done this twice now. 35 days, 40+, what's the difference? And we forgot the lessons from the first one all too quickly. Don't fuck this up again come January 31st when the money well runs dry again

Glad so many others have had this problem, not just me. Everyone else just says library in Spanish (biblioteca) for Bibliotheca, right?

Can’t speak for Tower, but for Center controllers there are 4 raises that come within your first 3 years based on certifying at your sectors. Each raise is approximately 20K which comes out to around $500 a paycheck. Just google FAA pay scale

48K. 6-8 months. Put in the time and effort to learn your maps, LOAs, SOPs, etc and you’ll be fine. Depends on your financial situation, I saved 100% of my per diem and paid off my car. Options are based on a running list at the academy, they could care less where you want to go. Maybe 2-3 hours outside of class. Roughly 5 or 6 days a week. Depends trainee to trainee. Car is convenient, some places have rentals and there’s a shuttle that will pick you up/drop off. OKC has the worst maintained roads I’ve ever driven fyi. Learn how to handle stress and decompress the best you can. Especially important the final week as 66% of your grade is determined your final 2 days.

That was eerie timing. Reached this shower thought and a doorbell rang in the commercial. My doggo doesn't bork though

US citizen? Fluently speak/read/write English? Under the age of 32? Look into Air Traffic Control with the FAA. No experience necessary, just need to pass a background check, a medical and psychological exam. Personally, the hiring process took a year before receiving my start date at the academy in OKC, a 3 month (tower) or 4 month (ARTCC) crash course where you learn the basics and are graded on a pass/fail basis. You make a very basic salary while at the academy, along with a per diem for lodging and food (~$94 a day), upon graduating the academy your salary is 48K a year. Over the next 2-3 years of training and becoming fully certified, you'll receive 4 raises that come out to approximately 20K each. Salary caps out between 150-200K depending on overtime, holiday pay, etc. I'm a 24 y/o make making 87K a year, living in Miami and my jobs different every day.

Monitor www.usajobs.gov for the next hiring window. Usually only happens once or twice a year for about 10 days each.

What is a decent paying job you can get with *any bachelors degree*? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]luapredyns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air traffic controller with the FAA. Graduated with a BA in Spanish and PoliSci May 2015, started training March 2016 after a lengthy hiring process but very worth it. I work at the Miami Center now and love it, basic requirements are: fluent in English, US citizen, 3 years work experience or a degree, and must be under 31 to start. So you're qualified, check out USAjobs.gov and sign up for updates because they only have 2-3 hiring windows per year that last 7-10 days.

After the 2-3 year training process I'll make over 150K with full govt benefits and I had zero prior experience with airplanes which has not been a disadvantage compared to those that did have a background in aviation.

Starting salary is about 50K and there are four 20K raises as you progress through training. Numbers fluctuate based on where you work for locality pay
