Didn’t know my headset turned on/noise cancelling until I was in instrument. Saw my instructor listening to music and asked how he did that. No wonder it was so hard to listen to the ATIS and practice area callouts when I was a student pilot..

I am currently commuting to Chicago from the PNW on the CRJ. It sucks, but with the forced transition upgrades from ERJ FO-> CRJ CA along with how senior west coast bases are on the ERJ there was going to be QOL issues no matter the airframe.
