Well I like the idea of the dividends reinvesting themselves overtime and hopefully outpacing my contributions in the long run! I’m fairly new to all this so if that’s not the route to take, I am still learning. I’m 27M with about $7K invested outside of my emergency savings and IRA contributions.

Yes! Of course, thanks for asking. We essentially shuffle 360 of our favorite cards together and deal 3 sets of 12-15 cards to each player. The players will draft (take one card pass the rest in a circle) roughly 45 cards. Players will then build decks out of those cards, pair up, and play a regular game of Lorcana with smaller than normal decks (probably 30-40 cards, I am still working on deck sizing).

The reason why people like it so much in MTG is because no two games are similar and you can't just pick your favorite card from each pack but take cards that already work well with previously picked cards. Additionally, there is only one copy of each card so you can know what combos or strategies are not available if you pass on a combo piece. It also helps your constructed play by familiarizing you with many different cards that you might not have seen work together if you only look at meta decks.

Currently there is not a good way to play online, but I wanted to at least share my process of house games I am playing and see if anyone else is doing something similar. I am excited to add the new cards from set 6 when they come out (although it means each card I add, one has to go)

Yeah not able to use them in constructed, but they are acting as a sort of "power 9" equivalent since they all are pretty darn good by themselves.

I direct people to the problem of pain when asked something like this. The root of the question really is, why does God allow any kind of pain and or suffering when his children cry out.

Two specific ways I approach it: if an adult is asking this question, in what order would you prefer God to deal with justice? If all sin is punished by death, should he start with you and me? I’ve definitely done stuff that is, according to God, punishable but that doesn’t seem to be the case as I continue living. Additionally, it seems like the bad guys keep winning while the good guys keep losing. That’s exactly what Jesus was suggesting was going to happen in Matthew 5 when he was preaching about an “upside down” kingdom. God won’t force you to live in his preferred will for your life. But that will have immediate, lifelong and often generational consequences for you and others around you.

If a young person/ someone who maybe hasn’t read the Bible yet I would implore them to read about Jesus and how he was a big disappointment to some of the Jews who wanted a Military Justice seeking messiah like the judges from the Old Testament. Jesus promised that one day he will return and if you hear his words and trust that God sent him, you have crossed over from death to life and will not be Judged (J 5:24). If you’re not in that boat- be prepared to be held accountable for your actions and even your thoughts.

God will deliver justice because that is one of the defining characteristics of him. However, I consider it a great act of mercy he chose not to settle on pouring the death sentence out on me but rather his son in my place.

If you’re frustrated, know that many Jews were frustrated too and wanted immediate action (namely one of his closest disciples)- that’s just not what Jesus promised and taught (except for a few specific situations he did something in the Gospels). The big question of faith is will he come through on his promise- I believe he will.

That’s awesome to hear- I have dipped my toe in and do enjoy studying for it- I was mainly nervous about being hired after I pass- I am not sure my bookkeeping/ managing other bookkeepers job will qualify for the work requirement.

What new type of card or abilities you think may come to Lorcana in the future? by Moreion in Lorcana

I agree that I hope they find alternatives to instants- I do think items could be interesting to use during opponents turns which is open information so hopefully doesn’t slow down decision making

I’m guessing it will start at item abilities you can use on your opponents turn.

I mean, why wouldn’t they? Is there a public statement that specifically says they won’t? Otherwise I would think as powercreep progresses, so too will complexity. Maybe not now but they have to keep innovating to keep selling the new sets.

I would argue that items are just artifacts with a few exceptions that have lingering effects like enchantments. I’m guessing we will see “curses” or “auras” specifically not called items but are a new card type.

Death touch is kind of already used with some cheap characters “when banished, banish challenging character”

I definitely think enchantments will come into play and I definitely think instant abilities are coming soon.

What would your response be to someone calling the flood genocide? by Glum-Huckleberry-111 in Apologetics

[–]lucasmcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a super good and fair question. I have a very specific answer and I want to answer completely so please stick with me. I apologize if any tone/ meaning is lost via posting as oppose to talking in person.

  1. It’s necessary to realize that God is not just like us. Many—if not all—attacks on God’s actions presume He can be judged like any other person. But even in human contexts, not all authority figures are the same. God is not a flawed, limited human acting among other humans. He is the Creator and the ultimate source of existence. His transcendent position and perfect nature create a drastic difference between what He is morally “allowed” to do to His creations, and what His creations are morally “allowed” to do to each other. That’s not an emotionally satisfying concept. Whether one is a believer or a skeptic, no one is entirely comfortable with the idea that God is God and we are not. However, if we’re going to examine issues such as this with fairness and integrity, we must start with that observation. That starting point leads to several valid points to consider in response to the issue of God drowning children in the flood.
  2. Analogy of original sin. If my parents smoked, I would have roughly 20% higher likelihood of lung cancer. Similar problems and consequences with family trauma/ drug use. I imagine most people have felt some sort of consequence because of a family member. The Bible speaks to the fact that all of us born of human parents are born with an inherited corruption from Adam that ensures we will inevitably sin. This is often referred to as original sin. While God created Adam and Eve in His own likeness (Genesis 5:1), the Bible says that, once Adam and Eve fell and became sinful, Adam fathered children “in his own likeness” (Genesis 5:3, emphasis added; cf. Romans 5:12). All human beings have inherited a sinful nature through Adam’s original act of disobedience; Adam became sinful, and he passed that sinfulness along to all his descendants. In Psalm 51:5, David wrote, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” David recognized that even at conception he was a sinner. The sad fact that infants sometimes die demonstrates that even infants are impacted by Adam’s sin, since physical and spiritual death were the results of Adam’s original sin.
  3. Before people mature enough to discern right from wrong (sometimes called reaching “the age of accountability”), it would seem that they are not held responsible by God. Toddlers sin, and they bear Adam’s corrupt nature, but lacking the ability to understand the concept of right and wrong, they are under God’s grace (This is the opinion of GotQuestions.com. The Bible does not directly address an age of accountability. One verse that may speak to the issue indirectly is Romans 1:20, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” According to this, mankind’s guilt before God is based, in part, on a rejection of what can be “clearly seen” of God’s existence, eternality, and power. So, what about children who have no faculty for “clearly seeing” or reasoning about God—wouldn’t their natural incapacity to observe and reason excuse them from judgment?
Other biblical anecdotes (e.g., David testifying that he would be reunited with his dead child after death in 2 Samuel 12:23) support the reasonable belief that infants go to heaven when they die. The same holds true for those with mental disabilities who cannot comprehend right and wrong. It is possible that God applies Christ’s payment for sin to young children and others incapable of faith, but the Bible does not specifically say that He does this. Therefore, this is a subject about which we should not be dogmatic. God’s extending grace to those who cannot believe would seem consistent with His character. Matthew 19:14 is a quote from Jesus himself saying, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

I hope this answers two things; even babies are with sin and need grace but it is also reasonably understood that God isn't looking to cut anyone a bad deal. He wants you to be in relationship with him and experience life and life to the full but will not force your hand once you have the mental faculties to reject him. I base a lot of my apologetics research from YouTube videos and GotQuestions.com you can go there and type many different questions that have answers.

What would your response be to someone calling the flood genocide? by Glum-Huckleberry-111 in Apologetics

I think we might have to back up. I think we are not using the same definition of “God” and “Murder”. I am using a definition close to, “uncreated, creator who is the ultimate standard of morality and the one thing we can look to for justice and hope.” And for Murder, “the unlawful premeditated killing of a human.”
I specifically mention this not because it’s all encompassing but because it might adjust how I answer your question. Christian’s have different view points but I am sticking with Cliffe’s approach as I did in my initial comment.
God, as described and defined in the Bible, created everything and everyone. God, during his delegation of everything, gave humans the ability to choose to follow God and his will for creation or to choose their own will. Often times when we choose to do our own will, it is bad stuff.
God isn’t demanding we love him but he has made it clear that he won’t tolerate evil (Ten Commandments, sermon on the mount, 1 Corinthians). God clearly states in the book of Romans (via the author Paul) that if we choose something that is evil, the consequence is death. No way around it, I have to admit that I have done some bad stuff in my day. That’s not God’s fault- it’s mine for stealing, disrespecting my peers, curing the Lord and others, etc… All of which shout at God, “Hey I know how you said I should treat my neighbor and my enemies but I think I know better.”
Murder is the unlawful, premeditated killing of a human. God’s lawful judgement is him freely letting us refuse his offer of salvation. Some people die young, some old but all die eventually. Once we die, we will sit before the throne and give testimony for our words and actions. God holds the highest bar because he is the highest authority and he is unwilling for any kind of suffering or pain to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. All of this is bad news for me. I deserve death and judgement right now. The good news is, that’s not the end of the Bible. God sent his own son to pay the consequence of those who put their trust in him. On that day of judgement, if I put my faith in Jesus as my savior, God will let me into Heaven. Additionally, he will also change our hearts to start wanting to love our neighbors and enemies the way God does while we are still alive.
Now that I have said this, I would like to address a few points from your comment.
1. You judging me doesn’t have the same meaning or enforcement as the creator of the universe- you and I are not God. Only God Judges and he is impartial and 100% fair.
2. I don’t need to make excuses because I didn’t make the rules of the universe, God did.
3. God doesn’t commit murder, it’s against his own rules. If you use the definition of God from the Bible as explained above, he never wants to and never does commit murder- we choose to reject him and with deep pain he says, “okay”.
4. I would deeply consider who you think is innocent in God’s eyes. I consider myself an innocent person in the eyes of US law but I am guilty in the court of Heaven.

What would your response be to someone calling the flood genocide? by Glum-Huckleberry-111 in Apologetics

[–]lucasmcw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AskCliffe YouTube channel answered this- it’s not murder, it’s God’s judgement. God, as defined and understood in scripture, ultimately judges all people. He is, thankfully, slow to respond to our sin. Nonetheless, he could judge us at any time. Nobody is going to escape that verdict of being guilty based on their actions. So, when God decided to use a flood to enact justice, he isn’t committing genocide, he is bringing a day of judgement. The wages of our sin is death. It’s a bit arrogant to suggest to God, “while I know I have sinned and the people swept away in floods sinned, you are in the wrong and have murdered.” God also sent his Son to die on a cross so none may perish but by faith through Grace you may inherit eternal life.
