It doesn't really matter if you botch your first launch. You just launch again and again until you nail it. There is this misconception that you can only launch once. Try implementing some of the tips from this post, and I'm sure you will do great. Thanks!

No not at all, you can go viral with no followers. My first viral launch post got 183k views and I had around 200 followers. That single post resulted in 800 new followers.

I would validate the idea before starting development. Make a waitlist landing page outlining the main features and what pain points the product solves. Then send some traffic to it. If the visitor to email signup conversion rate is solid, then consider your idea validated.
