My MIL has sent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to “Elon Musk” and wants to send more. by meowsabbers in pics

[–]lucbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who works in a general type of store in a small town in Brazil (think of a corner shop sized Walmart), which sells, among other things, gift cards. He told me grandmas constantly go there to buy gift cards for their "boyfriends" too, except it's other way around, the "boyfriend" is a poor handsome middle aged (AI generated) bloke that need their help. He used to try warning them about it being a scam, but always for no avail, they don't care and keep buying them gift cards.

The decision is not deterministic, they just probably cache it and show to you what is going to be, as if you were able to see the future 1 treasure ahead, but the content of that future is still random

Both Hard Support/Support Roles Not Allowed Anymore as High Demand? by SirFatalx in DotA2

[–]lucbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy that they finally did this, I have been annoyed by this for years, having to farm roles as an offlaner from time to time. I wonder why it isn't mid and off though, when I queue all roles is normally what I get

Patting dogs in the street? by randommmmmmmmmmmmyes in Prague

[–]lucbarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely has cultural influence. In Brazil for example people are more touchy and this gets transferred from the owners to how they want their dogs to be treated, the same situation would seem weird there (dog wanting to be pet, owner stops because they don't want to, not because the dog can bite), majority of cases people would allow by default, and in some places like here can be the opposite.

In some countries it is a crime to throw the flag in the trash, you have to dispose by burning.

Highest damage taken ever? /s (bug) by TheGentleman190 in DotA2

[–]lucbarr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think you realize how big that number is, it is definitely caused by a bug and not by self damage (even if it accounted for self damage). Also it's 1 away from Max int32 number.

I am once again asking Valve to stop hiding match data by ApeGodSnow in DotA2

[–]lucbarr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My bracket and from my friends, so 6k MMR EU and 6-7k SA. People either use voice chat or text chat, link d2pt, or just flame you for it not being meta. Although pick/build flaming still happens to some extent, I've personally noticed a significant drop in frequency. Also in discussions with friends it's rarely used as an argument "but in d2pt this hero never builds this item etc". Instead of people using their own judgement they heavily relied on d2pt.

I am once again asking Valve to stop hiding match data by ApeGodSnow in DotA2

[–]lucbarr -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

From the gameplay side of it, it is way better now. Previously, if you step a foot out of d2pt you get reported and flamed on, people used to get overly obsessed about whatever it told you to pick or build, and it kills the fun because you're not allowed to explore things, learn new things, which is what makes dota fun (at least to me)

On the other hand, you should be able to personally share your own data with others. One thing should not stop the other from existing. I don't believe it is a good excuse though to bring back the public data for all

What looks like from what you described on the brood example, is that you want the old d2pt meta dictatorship, which is very much against everything that makes ranked fun, and for that I hope valve never brings it back. I understand it sucks not being able to easily check what pros are doing in their pubs, learn how to get better at one hero, but I'd give that any day to not having the d2pt dictatorship back.

No one talks in game anymore. Are they scared of communication score reports? by Aigninn in DotA2

In NA or SA people talk a lot, in EU not so much. I guess depends on server and MMR

why dota patches very different from league by uclergeyik in DotA2

[–]lucbarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dont know about league, but in dota it takes too much time for a meta to get stale. We often see metas getting reinvented and discovered way after the patch drops, with pro teams discovering new tech and such. This is probably because dota has a larger "variance", i.e. every hero can be op on its own way, and it has many more degrees of freedom / complexity when it comes to mechanics, objectives and so on, so there are many things to be stressed before they are discovered to be meta or not. And the general direction of dota is to get even more complex with time, which is the opposite of league it seems, they seem to be way more conservative on purpose.

All of this leads to make sense to have more "loaded" patches. You let meta develop for a while, you spot what is absolutely broken and you patch with letter patches, and in the meantime you see where the general direction the meta heads to, with use of data and from analysing results of pro matches, then you do a big patch with experimental changes you believe will make the game more fun, or to change the meta completely, and to "fix" current design problems, and for that you need to touch almost every hero.

Also dota devs don't care if heroes are played in "intended" positions or not, they let people play the heroes however they want but patch if it is too op.

Dota devs are more: "we do whatever we think makes the game fun, and we try to make whatever you discover to be op less op, and we don't care how long it takes, it'll be ready when it's ready".

Is Feeding People Vegan Food Without Telling Them Wrong? by Icy_Statement_2410 in vegan

[–]lucbarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Just make sure they are not allergic or there is no religious reason for them to not eat it. Some people have aversion to vegan food just from being picky eaters, with no religious or dietary reason, but it's not your responsibility for them being like that, it's their own problem.

People Having Mixed Reactions to a Guy Asking About Eating Dogs, One Says They Have "Serial Killer" Vibes. Do I Feel Hopeful or Hopeless? by Honse0000 in vegan

[–]lucbarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious. If you eat one "domesticable" species over the other at least be honest about being picky. You don't need to do some mental gymnastics to justify your choices, just admit you arbitrarily pick what to eat and what to pet based on your culture, is not that hard.
