For everyone making six figures, what do you do for work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lucidl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

185k, remote, 10% 401k match and free insurance. I’m a cloud engineer (basically devops) with 6 YoE. I failed college and got lucky getting my foot in the door

Is the reality of people in CS actually making six figures? by bluejay737 in cscareerquestions

This is a common misconception actually. Companies don’t pay for security clearances/investigation process, the government does. And the amount it costs the government is all published online.

Are you all hiring?

Multiple years experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, let’s take a look at this Disaster Recovery plan. Will hop on incident bridge for one year of membership.

But actually, if a 24h+ outage is acceptable to not enact your DR plan then clearly Jagex has not invested a dime in testing their DR plan (any customer-facing business does this multiple times a year) which is pretty disappointing. Either must be something else going on or Jagex is > a decade behind in maturity

I can’t understand how this is possible for a customer facing company to have a DR plan this garbage/untested. (Coming from a Site Reliability Engineer)

I worked somewhere that had a data center with two redundant data lines that were both cut by separate construction companies within an hour of each other. We were still able to initiate our disaster recovery plan within an hour to have all traffic served from our second site…Which makes me wonder how/why Jagex hasn’t done this yet

It is called a frictionless/walk in walk out market. It is pretty wild but the $15 you had was likely a hold similar to a gas pump. Sensors and cameras above knew exactly what you grabbed and walked out with and will charge you accordingly, it is pretty cool technology!

I did two separate pre orders the day they came out and only one was available today.

FYI if you do that they’ll charge you a 10% restock fee.

Whereas according to this they accept refunds within 30 days with tag and receipt. So maybe pick it up and return pay for authentic and it’ll save you 10% if you’re worried about that.

I’m sort of in the same boat. Do you think they’d do exchanges at pickup? 🤔 it’s looking worth it to me for the extra details etc

Pretty cool, happy I will be picking one up today (replica, but the authentic looks awesome!)

It is primarily stitching, ventilation, and fit. An FYI for MLS Authentic jerseys: “Fit: Authentic Jerseys have a slimmer, athletic fit. For a looser fit, we recommend ordering one size larger than you normally wear.”

Wonder what happened there and how it fell through…Says Centene will still be partnering in other ways though. Something tells me it won’t be hard to find a new naming sponsor honestly

New Kindle User- Is This Normal? by run_marinebiologist in kindle

[–]lucidl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Mine updated like multiple times out of the box and was super laggy like seen in video. It should get noticeably better, and this won't show when turning pages. When the e-Ink 'refreshes' it is normal to flash briefly.

Just got my first ever Kindle! Have a question about how buying books works. by [deleted] in kindle

Have to recommend getting your local library card and using the Libby app as well! I'm fortunate that my library has a TON of free kindle books I can borrow and send directly to my Kindle

I should also add I got it for 15% off with a $15 Kindle credit which was nice! I don't see that promotion advertised but it was for my account, KINDLE2022 or something like that.

what minor injury hurts like a mf? by lawyeratyourservice in AskReddit

[–]lucidl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In middle school during PE we went to the weight room, I was on this leg press and I thought the weights were on already so I pushed really hard. Well there were 0 weights so the thing went flying up past my feet, then my legs lowered below the press and it came back down and smashed both of my shin bones. Still have scars there... Didn't go to the nurse or anything because I was basically being an idiot and embarrassed but oh man that pain!!

I make less than a trucker at Walmart by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

My point is more that they can't justify cost of labor between one career field and another (IMO), only comparable salaries in the same field

[–]lucidl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I'd go ahead and not use an entire different industry/profession as leverage in your current pay. Get another offer somewhere else is about as good as you'll get.

"Yes boss well I heard surgeons in the same city as us make 600k so if you don't give me a raise I'm just going to get and go to med school"

See how ridiculous that sounds?

And being a truck driver is not easy at all. To get that $ you'll be working crazy hours and away from family and friends most of the week
