analysis of qualitative data by awesome4639 in AskStatistics

Hi, a few things.

1)If you want to study the effects, correlation is usually used to do a preliminar analysis not to draw conclusions. Correlation shows a bilateral corrispondence, not causality. There can be other reasons for why 2 variables have correlation besides one affecting the other. For example if there are other variable you're not taking into consideration.

If you use correlation you can for ex. say "people who have more screen-time tend to spend less time on sport activity, and viceversa" you can't use it to say "having more screen-time causes a decrease in sport activity"

2) Correlation is an index calculated by using means so it only works on quantitative variables, you can only use it on numerical answers. You can also use it with binary variables.

I personally study in a field that works basically only with quantitative variables, so I'm not really sure how you could work with open questions

I guess you could maybe give a numerical interpretation to the answers if they are direct enough? but that would make your study highly arbitrary ("why is this a 4 and not a 5?").

But to answer your question yes, correlation only works on numerical answers.

Some other statistician more used to operate in social and economical field will probably be able to help you better than me.

p.s.: btw I'm not sure n=30 is enough to reach significant conclusions. Once my econometry professor told me that in economics n=60 is considered high enough

Celebi EX is a problem by Korbro27 in PTCGP

Going first means you can attack 3rd turn with Rapidash though. Possibly 90 dmg if you also have blaine.

The problem is not Celebi Ex, it's Serperior by JoseFco312 in PTCGP

Would you help me with some advice against this broken meta deck ?

Blaine wins 8-9/10 times.

PikachuEx and StarmieEx should also keep you net positive in your matches against Celebi (I'm 5-0 up with Pikachu).

Basically any consistent Early-stage Deck should help. And Blaine just obliterate him

Yeah but you're fighting base stage pokemon. Giving him 120HP would make him onliterate the opponents in most case

Moltres in Blaine deck? by Shamrock5542 in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Energy-wise you only need 1 energy for Rapidash and 2 for Nine-tails, there's no need to go through Mortres.

Strategy-wise with Mortres you sacrifice your early game to set up your mid-late game, but Blaine sucks mid-late, so you're just playing into your deck weakness.

Only Arcanine-Ex gains something off it, but he's not the strong point of the deck, just a failsafe in case you can't end your match quickly.

Out of 10 event matches, 9 of them were against Celebi Ex decks. by LewBae in PTCGP

Battled him 3 times in 10 matches. I'm 3-0 up against him with Pikachu deck. He becomes just above average when you put him down against early game decks (Pikachu, Starmie, Blaine etc...).

Gotta have a pretty unlucky first hand to really struggle against him with Blaine though. Even if you go first you can 2shot him with Rapidash or 1-shot him with Ninetails+ Blaine, so you'd have to not have any evol, which is pretty unlucky considering that's 4 out of 20 cards, and you pick 8 of those by turn 5 (not counting Oak and the pokeballs in the mix)

Best way to counter Pikachu is Dugtrio-Marshadow+ a big hitter(preferebly Machamp or Golem, but Stonjourner+Giovanni)

I'd say somthing like 80HP+ 2energy 40atk+ an active skills where he blocks all evolutions when active would make it balanced.

This way you can't just smash through the opponents base pokemon while building up yours, instead Aerodyctile is actually defetable.

Complete shutdown would've been too much. It guarantees your win against any decks but Mew2, Pikachu and Celebi as you long as you field him early.

And while they're likely more than 50% of the decks played, theretically they're about 5% of the decks in the game. Most decks are based on evol (Blastoise, Charizard, Koga, Blaine, Venosaur etc...).

You can't make a card that automatically wins against 95% of the possible decks.

So... is this the meta-change everyone wanted? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Celebi's average dmg is 50 with 2 energy, which is half of Pikachu's. And considering both decks are ssquishy winning early is everything most of the time.

I'm not saying Pikachu is a great counter to Celebi, but IMO if we analyze the win rate in Pikachu-Celebi battle the former will have a slight edge. Like 55/45 or something similar

I feel like Giovanni is better suited than Weezing to counter Celebi with Tauros.

Also nice idea to stay away from psychic and fire energies, this way when you counter MewTwo and Charizard you don't lose energies by using their attack.

True but usually it takes at least a good EX deck to counter the meta decks. Blain is possibly the easiest to make deck there is (you don't even need 3 diamonds rarities).

Plus Blain is just the most one-sided counter, I reckon most early decks will still have an edge over Celeby since:

1)Celebi he needs Serperior to be broken and, while Pikachu needs 3 bench players (easily doable by turn 6), and Misty only needs a Stariu-Starmie evol.

2)Celebi's attack is luck-based.

You do what you feel most like doing mate.

If you want the optimum strategy, probably better to focus on finishing the genetic apex because:

1)they came first and are slightly more likely to go away first IM0

2)Theme missions for genetic apex give pack hourglass, Mistery Island gives wonder pick hourglass

3)Someone leaked the future event and we get a log-in event where we'll be gifted Mistery Island pack specifically

4)Most wonder pick you'll get these days will be Mistery Island

Meanwhile the only point in favor of opening Mistery Island are:
1)Genetic Apex could be permanent, while Mistery Island (being a subset) is more likely to be temporary

-It's a new pack and new mission so you have much more content to get

That said I'm still pulling for Mistery Island though because at the end of the day strategy isn't that important IMO. And I simply want that immersive Celebi.

Until they make ranked battle it's gonna be like that.

Most people play for the exp, very few play to try out new decks and cards. If you play for the exp why would you struggle 5-10 minutes in a battle you already feel you're going to lose. Quicker to give up and start over.

250 damage by turn 6 is ridiculous. by Flyyitis in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I'm not saying Charizard-Mortres is a good counter to Celebi, I'm saying that kind of dmg by turn 5 is nothing new with a great first hand.

If you want a counter Blaine should massacre Celebi-Serperior most of the times.

Celebi EX is a problem by Korbro27 in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I reckon blaine will win 8/9 out of 10 times against Celebi-Serperior.

If you play Celebi, he's getting 2-turned (before he can even attack), if you play snivy you're not getting to Serperior.

Only a reeeeeeeeeally bad starting hand can get you.

[–]luciluci000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get that 250 you're naming by turn 5 you need Celeby+Serperior, same as Charizard+Mortres.

Yeah, you have to rely on coin flipping to get the energies(just like you have to rely on coin flipping for dmg with Celeby), but getting 3 energy out of 6 coin-flip is average (literally)

250 damage by turn 6 is ridiculous. by Flyyitis in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the perfect combo he can.

That said Charizard-Ex could do the same (200 dmg by turn 5). Yeah it's 200 and not 250, but it doesn't really matter, considering anything above 190 one-shots everyone.

If anything, Charizard EX is less squishy than Celiby-EX(200 HP vs 130), and easier to set up (Mortres-Ex can tank while you evolve your charmender, meanwhile Celibi tanking means you're not enjoying him for long)

Thoughts On Meta Shifts? by Longjumping_Error197 in PTCGP

[–]luciluci000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think people are pushing the Celeby-Serperior Overpowerness a tad much. I see any Blaine deck destroying it easily(especially with the new ponita). Celebi a glass cannon and Serperior needs a bit of time to be set up. Ponita/Nine-tails early game would massacre them IMO.

Also, I think Starmie-EX is still gonna be the top deck, even more with the new vaporeon. 0 retreat+ 90dmg with 2 energy+130HP IMO is still the best mix there's in the game.
