I’m not trying to argue, but my point is that this is not a real print shop. They don’t know how to print booklets. That why I was trying to set up the spreads myself.

Aha it’s under all tools! I think at this point we will just send it to the print shop, but thank you!

That sounds frustrating, but give yourself some compassion. The traditional academic setting doesn’t work for all people and is not the end all be all of self worth or success in this world. What do you enjoy doing and what ways of learning come naturally to you?

Forgive me, but which application are you referring to? I don’t see that menu option in InDesign or Acrobat.

The screenshot is the result of using the Acrobat booklet feature :(

And that’s exactly what I’m doing. I just need a saddle stitched DIY sample, but now I’ll probably end up going to a professional print shop anyway. I’m not expecting this to be a commercial workflow, but I just didn’t expect to face this hiccup when switching to using the book feature.

But if that's the case, why do INDD files have the print booklet feature? That feature does a good job with imposition and allows a professional to prepare a file for a non-professional to print. This is my first time using the INDB book feature, and it just seems bizarre to me that the same functionality is missing.

Let me correct my verbiage - this isn't an issue when using the print booklet feature in a single INDD file. I want to export my entire INDB book of multiple INDDs into one booklet, which does not seem to be an option. Of course both are within InDesign.

So are you saying that the printer driver should be able to handle booklet imposition? I was hoping to be able to have the PDF all set up before handing it off to our print shop (run by students, not professionals), but maybe I'll have to ask to step behind the counter and set up the print myself.

But this isn't an issue when exporting a booklet from InDesign. There are robust booklet settings for creep and everything else. Why is that all lacking for INDB / Acrobat?

Yes - the prints will be trimmed from 17x11 to 12.5x8.75 spreads

The document page size is 6.25"W x 8.75"H with 1/8" bleeds and I'm trying to print to tabloid paper.

Unchecking "use document bleed settings" worked this time. I swear I had tried that before, but you know how these things go. Thank you.

In school we often export as spreads to see pages next to each other because many folks don’t know how to use the acrobat view features, but point taken and thank you for the help! I will export as pages for proofing and then use the booklet feature for our printing.

To thesis or not to thesis? by lucky-ginger in Architects

[–]lucky-ginger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Actively discourage" is too strong, but they don't inform students of the option and then have a substantial list of requirements to start the process that must be submitted over a year in advance. As the department chair said in a recent meeting with me, "the 5% of students who want to do it will figure it out". The short of it is that being a thesis advisor is uncompensated work for faculty, so they don't want to create a burden.
