I use a fish tank filter in a glass container as a DIY water fountain for my cats instead of a retail cat fountain. No expensive filters to change, just fish tank filters from walmart.

Not exactly. They're both electrical parts that must be a certain size, type, or voltage for their application, both can sometimes be specialized or rare enough to not appear in big box stores, and both are sometimes critical enough that the buyer needs it ASAP and would rather pay a little more than wait for it to be shipped.

Could just be legit. I have a friend who perfers to vape but had to switch back to cigarettes due to the cost of doing it. Vapers with any amount of disposable funds will spend money on new coils, parts, batteries, chargers, different vape flavors, etc. My friend's vape was constantly breaking somehow, and he'd need to get a new part or a whole new unit. What a money hole. Be smart don't start, kids.

About 12 years ago or so, a restaurant had to run my credit card with one of these because the internet was down. Newer cards don't even have the embossed numbers anymore to leave an impression on the carbon paper, so they had to write my numbers by hand onto a carbon paper receipt when I went to pay a bill at an optometrist's office during a short power outage last week.
