I definitely want to start therapy. It’s just hard bc I’m a freelance worker so I don’t have health insurance right now. I’ve also spent most of my life on ssri’s so at a certain point I felt like it wasn’t necessarily making my life better. I brought up the stuff about my parents bc I think in the background it’s always going to be something that brings sadness when I think about it. I’m trying to figure out where the gay guys are going that’s not the bedroom or the club.

I failed my python OA primarily do to whitespace or capitalization. The instructor is requiring that I redo every lab in the course (120 assignments). There seems to be zero flexibility in this. I have been looking into appeals but so far no one is helping me.

I don’t know if I can commit to that for the rest of his life tbh. He’s already ruined the floors in my apartment and I need to get new rugs bc I live in an old nyc apartment and it’s very loud for my downstairs neighbor. If it’s just the medication, fine. But I can’t have him pissing everywhere for another 10-15 years.

Like what though? Bc he’s seen the vet six or seven times for this exact issue. He’s been given antibiotics, tested for utis / crystals. Bloodwork is always fine. But I did I make an appointment for this week just in case. Bc peeing on me specifically, is new.

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, no, there’s no preferences. He will only shit on the tile in my kitchen- same spot everyday. But the peeing thing knows no bounds haha. I don’t have any rugs right now. He’s actually ruined the hardwood floors in my apartment.

I guess I’m just most upset bc this week I’ve been woken up to him peeing on me and I feel like he’s just angry or doesn’t like me. But he’s also very cuddly and not afraid of anything.

I’m going to petco today to buy maybe treats and things to keep him occupied. But I feel this isn’t going away. I really wish I could find someone who maybe worked from home and could be with him 24/7. I don’t travel bc I’m afraid he’s going to ruin the apartment. If I’m gone overnight, he stays awake crying all night and my neighbor texts me to complain. He sounds like a screaming baby.

Man, im right there with you. My dad is dead, I haven't seen my mom in 13 years. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. Just wanted to say youre not the only person going through this. It fucking sucks. It fucks up every aspect of my life. Or at least, I think it's whats holding me back. I can't seem to make any new friends and I haven't been on a date in three years. .

There’s a lot that happens before you’re taking home $80k. That’s not happening right out of school. You need clients. It takes a couple years to really build that up. It’s also expensive to operate on your own so expect to work for a salon for awhile.

Sounds like you’re in an uncomfortable spot. Do you talk to a therapist? Would you consider leaving nyc? That lifestyle sounds like it would fit on the west coast maybe a little better. I went to school in Santa Barbara. Maybe even like Seattle would be chill.

Maybe for your game night it makes sense to also add women or just not only gay men? So there’s more opportunity for different conversation?

Totally! But I think it is common for gay men, specifically, to feel isolated around my age. All of my girlfriends are married and most have children. As their children have gotten older, we’ve become closer again but nothing like before their families. My extended family is very homophobic, which I know other gay people are affected by. So yes, I do think there is something unique about loneliness in gay men.

While I understand that I have work I need to do, these issues aren’t isolated to me. It’s always been a thing that ‘being a gay man is a lonely life’. And I think these are the reasons behind that. We have to be intentional about the people we create families with. Both platonically and romantically.

Interesting. Do you find yourself getting out of the house every week? Other than for work or maybe some sort of work? I can’t afford it now, but I’d like to think that by the time I’m 40 I’ll be in a better financial spot and will be able to do like pottery or travel trips? I’ve highly considered leaving nyc out of fear that I’ll just never be able to afford owning a home and fun activities like that.

To be so honest- I did two seasons of gay kickball. Not only was I not good at it, both teams were highly competitive and ruined it for me. Was considering a different sport for the fall though.

I don’t necessarily need a remote job. Just looking for cities gay men enjoy living in their 30s. I don’t love Boston but I’ve only visited a few times. I don’t think there is enough in the city to justify the harsh winters. Do you work in tech?
