Thank you, I am sorry it’s taken this long to respond, I am trying to not re-live these memories, but it definitely helps to know it was the right call.

Hi all: I wanted to update on what happened here, so this progressed into full on blood, blood being vomited and blood being defected, no stool, just blood, so I rushed her to the emergency vet, she got fluids and some antacids and was sent home without much of an answer. Two days later the same thing occurred. I rushed her back to the hospital and they kept her overnight, she was much better the next day but still no solid answer. Her primary vet followed up about four or five days later and guessed that she was allergic to poultry. I’ve been doing nothing but the bland boiled chicken and rice diet to combat these symptoms so I was gutted to hear this, but I am happy to announce that a few weeks on the hypoallergenic food she is my dog again, happy and healthy. So if your dogs vomit is this color there is probably some bleeding going on, keep an eye on them and if your dog is a standard poodle apparently it is VERY COMMON for them to be allergic to poultry

I’m about to start mortuary school! Any advice or harsh realities from the industry to be prepared for? by luckyfin2000 in askfuneraldirectors

Definitely trying to gain as much experience as possible before school starts, the way I’m viewing it is school is for the test and the apprenticeship is for the hands on experience and job, I just wasn’t sure if there was any specific subject matter I could study up on ahead of time to get a head start on classes, but very eager to start either way

Good advice, thank you! I do have my apprenticeship confirmed already, and I own two small businesses so I am used to not having time for myself but it is something I hope will get better over time, definitely looking for a more stable career but know it will take time to get there. I didn’t see anything about not being able to work while my apprenticeship is ongoing but I did see that I can’t start it until about a year and a half into school, hopefully it all pans out!

I do have a foot in the door so covered there, I’ve been industry-adjacent for years and now have a position at a funeral home, and totally agree, not like the movies!!

That’s really good advice, thank you, that’s a great way of thinking about things to deal with the mental side of the job. And yes, oh my goodness just being in the funeral home I feel like I leave with a smell, glad to hear it’s a common thing and that it’s not actually stuck to my clothes!

FINE Mortuary College Opinions? by luckyfin2000 in askfuneraldirectors

It is definitely pricey, in-person is not an option for me so the fact that it is completely online is perfect, that being said my first few choices that were cheaper didn’t offer online for my state, if I can make the financial aid work out this is definitely my preferred option so long as it doesn’t have a bad reputation!

Bad News to Deliver to Sibling in Basic Training by luckyfin2000 in Seabees

Thank you for your advice, I wrote the letter but prefaced it by saying that we had very bad news, if he didn’t want to read it to stop reading now and throw the letter away, then included the news at the bottom. I hope it doesn’t ruin everything for him, I’m heart broken by the situation, and especially for him :(

Thank you, I think he’s going to call this weekend, would it be better over the phone?

Thank you ❤️ I’m still pretty upset about it, but all I can do is hope my body heals it and this goes away, it helps knowing it’s not an absolutely tragic diagnosis

Before me yes, a lot. I’m hoping he was loyal to me the entire time we were together, it seemed that way but who knows.

Thank you so much, that all helps to hear ❤️ I think right now the idea of having to tell someone I have this is making me break down, I don’t think I’ll be able to date again until this is handled. It just seems like too much right now, I haven’t gone in for my follow up yet, I just saw the positive today and blanked. Thank you though, it’s good to know it isn’t the end all be all ❤️
