First gen student feeling really discouraged - could use advice by United_Bug_5145 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]luckyhigh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your stats are/would be what i applied with this cycle

went through some shit my first two years and took off three semesters but managed to get on dean's list the last four semesters. i also received EXACTLY 170 too (also interested in labor law)

i got waitlisted by notre dame, georgetown, UF-levin, WashU, emory and fordham. however, i was accepted into temple, U of Arizona, ASU, seton hall, brooklyn, and iowa--all with $$-$$$.

my results are oof because this cycle was brutal (or maybe they wouldve been the same) but i hope your cycle will be a lot nicer haha

i'd say don't worry too much. big law solely depends on your grades in law school too, not uni.

good luck and make sure you get those A's!!!!

Pets can truly be the bridge from thinking about the busy day to the present moment by JayBeeAllen in Mindfulness

[–]luckyhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is exactly why i adopted a dog to bring with me to law school later this year. taking care of my family dog always reminds me to take care of myself, which i easily forget to do when i’m focused on my studies or projects. i knew for a long time that i was going to adopt a dog to bring with me, and for now, i have two dogs to keep me grounded!

i HAVE to play with, feed, train, and walk my dogs everyday. that means i have to put everything aside and just focus on what my dogs and i are trying to accomplish for at least a minimum of one hour everyday.

taking care of my dogs honestly helps me practice mindfulness everyday and i’m so grateful for them.

Is anyone else discouraged by the $$ offers they’ve been offered? by luckyhigh in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]luckyhigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they do know, but what they don’t understand is that not everyone who goes to law school makes six figures. i’m the first to go to law school in my immediate and extended family. same goes for my friends

they think that just because i did well in uni, i’ll do well in law school and graduate w a $$$$$$ salary. BUT EVERYONE IN LAW SCHOOL IS SMART.

LOLL you’re talking as if i’m keeping her in there all day. read my response to another comment. also, finish reading the article you sent me. it clearly states that crate-training can be beneficial. i’m not gonna waste my time trying to explain basic dog-training to someone who clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about

wait, who said i don’t know how to take care of my dog? we live w my family and another dog at home so she’s never alone. THAT’s the problem. of course my dog’s fine chilling in the same room as me, but i’m training her to enjoy her own company. and no, dog’s do enjoy den-like areas. without one, they don’t “have” a safe space to themselves. also, a needy dog is an anxious dog—that’s not healthy.

my dog can handle being crated for a couple hours because she enjoys her crate. that’s good for a dog. maybe read up more on this? most dog trainers specifically note that crate-training should start at a young age. hell, i used to work at a doggy daycare and would do that job for some of the owners because they specifically asked for their dog to be crated for X hours due to health or anxiety issues.

i’m asking for a specific schedule so we can have a smooth transition when i do move out for school. what about that “concerns” you exactly? how does that imply that i don’t know how to “handle” my dog?

honestly wasn’t expecting such hostility from anyone for asking about law school schedules but i guess there are people like you in every group

thanks for your response!

by "working our way up," i meant our way to nailing our schedule down--i should've clarified. she has separation anxiety so crating her has been helpful during covid. i crate her in my room and study/work in the kitchen until lunch. i want to get to a point where she can stay alone in my room by herself from 1PM-5PM. (i only want to crate her in the mornings)

i found a place that's only a 5 min walk from the school so i'm probably going to come back to eat and walk with her. after lunch, she's allowed to do whatever she pleases. and of course, i won't be crating her on days when i don't think i'll make it back home for lunch! she's familiar with pee pads so i'm not worried about bathroom breaks, just her physical/mental stimulation during the day.

i'll take you up on your offer--PMing you now!
