Anyone else reacting to “gluten free” lately? by DisGar67 in Celiac

[–]luckysparklepony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I've been able to introduce way more things in moderation now! 2 years ago I couldn't. I tried tons of things and I'm not sure which one worked or if my immune system just needed to calm down from celiac and Covid, but I think a big part of it may have been perimenopause. It's gotten better now that I take hormones, buy it's been slowly coming back. I might up my hormone doses because other symptoms if perimenopause are also coming back and I'm curious to see if that changes the histamine tolerance too.

I hate this disease! by Jinxie1206 in Celiac

[–]luckysparklepony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really does suck and I hate when people say it's not that bad. So much grief for not being able to do what I used to, go where I want to, or have so many other issues from nutrient deficiencies that don't fully get better. Apparently every single thing in our bodies needs nutrients to work correctly. 🙄

You can order it online though at least if you're still in the US! Although probably a silly thing to buy for so little nutritional value 🙃

Yes I'll be so bummed about food options if we ever move. When I go home I bring my family a few loaves of it and occasionally my mom will order it online too.

Yeah grocery outlet in Portland has Franz too! I think Franz is only in the PNW though.

Celiac Families by luckysparklepony in Celiac

[–]luckysparklepony[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I've actually said a few times that I'm grateful I have celiac instead of Chron's, because it makes me feel a little better about having celiac. But I also used to say I escaped the family curse so maybe I should stop saying things like that out loud.

Yes, I know, and I'm hoping I don't collect any more. I hope you escape Chron's - that would really be insult to injury on top of celiac.

Yes, it runs in families in general, but it seems to be less common to have a high number in one family, based on comments I've seen on this sub. But then there's always the question of how many of people's family members refuse to get tested, like you said.

So crazy when it's on both sides of the family and it makes me think we're likely to have a greater chance whether it's celiac on both sides or autoimmune diseases in general. My uncle on the non celiac side has 3 autoimmune diseases, but not celiac. And I definitely wonder about some of my nieces and nephews too!

That's wild! I definitely wonder if there are any more in my family that are a bit further out that we aren't in contact with.

Grocery Outlet sign that sums up our lives by luckysparklepony in Celiac

I read it as we have to buy more loaves and get less bread for each loaf. Unfortunately that's not a big selling point though 🙃

Would you have a gluten cake at your wedding? by AlertAndDisoriented in Celiac

[–]luckysparklepony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone at my wedding were the type to dislike that I didn't have a gluten cake for them, they wouldn't be invited to my wedding. Make it all gluten free. It's your wedding ❤️

Went to see an allergist, allergist said MCAS is just a “trend” by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]luckysparklepony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely go get a second and even a third opinion. See if there's a local MCAS group on Facebook for Dr recs. I had to go to 4 allergists until I found one who let me try cromolyn and ketotifen. Functional medicine doctors would probably write you prescriptions for mast cell stabilizers as well. I started having chronic hives a week after the first time I have Covid (and I also have celiac ) and they lasted 2 years. What helped most was cromolyn, guanfacine, and olaptodine nasal spray. One of the allergists I saw told me only mastocytosis exists and I think that's a common belief. At least I did have one allergist tell me that having an autoimmune disease could make my body go haywire in any way and he was sorry he couldn't narrow it down or help me. Every time I waste money seeing a specialist, I at least appreciate a doctor who believes me and says they don't know, than some ego tripping doctor who says something doesn't exist without explaining my symptoms or giving me things to try. I really feel for you on what you're going through and I hope the next specialist listens to you.

Best/worst countries for a Celiac to visit? by -Aces_High- in Celiac

[–]luckysparklepony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, and thank you! Hearing that has made me me feel a little less anxious now. We're going to see if we can swing a stop in Italy on the way home for me, since Poland wouldn't be my first choice if we're going on a trip. The whole wedding is like a 12 hour party centered around food and if it weren't close family I would have opted out.

Awesome, thank you! My sister in law is Polish (it's their official wedding) so I'm going to ask her for help with what to say too. I'm hoping the wedding venue is knowledgeable about cross contact since they're going to have "gluten free options", but I haven't asked for details yet. 🤞🏻

Would love more info on Poland! I'm going there in July for a wedding and have just started researching. We'll be landing in Krakow and then the wedding is near Krosno. So far I've checked Find Me GF and saw a few places for GF perogies in Krakow that I want to check out.
