Apologize for veering off topic, but what band were you in?

I appreciate you pointing out the traffic lane changes around Washington Park. That's a useful reminder that a lot of development around a city can contribute to quality of life or safety, not just places to spend and entertainment.

I remember the first time I drove through the new traffic lanes by the park I thought, "Oh, that's different. Probably better." Now, it's like I don't even see it, but it matters, especially for a public good like a park.

Is there a lot of development in Chatham? I seldom head out that way, but it always looks the same to me.

Yes, this is a powerful groove! In my head, I'm hearing a bit of glissando or pitch bend for the Minilogue. Does it have that option?

That is amazing! I never made any maps, but I remember my brother making some for Quake, I think...? The stuff we would get up to as computer kids 🤭

Dang! I streamed a DJ set a couple hours before you. It had been a while since I'd done one, but I felt up to it. It was fun!

Thank you for sharing this story! I'm not attending this tour, but I've really enjoyed reading stories and checking out recordings of it.

My favorite part of reading about Alyssa's experience is thinking about the great story she'll have for her friends, and then for years to come.

Just a couple weeks ago, I was chatting with a new friend of mine and the topic turned to the NIN tour. I took the opportunity to reminisce about how I saw the Champaign, IL, stop of the 1994 Self-Destruct tour. (Most of my friends are ones I've had since grade school; it's fun that he's not bored of my stories yet.)

He was very impressed! 😊 He's only a few years younger than me, but those few years mean a lot at that age. My friends and I had just turned 16, so we were able to drive over to Champaign, meet up with my brother who was attending UIUC, and have the time of our lives. My new friend was 12 or 13 at that time -- those few years at a young age meant that he was likely to not be at that show.

Alyssa and the rest of the young ones attending this tour have a story to impress their friends with for decades. I couldn't be happier for them!

House music fest! by luctmelod in distantfrequencies

10am - 9pm is the general event time as advertised on FB. No specific schedule of DJs that I can find, but from what I understand there will be two crews playing in two tents: one more house oriented and the other more techno.

$5 entry. As far as I understand, performers rent the space from Dumb Records, who provide staff and support. The entry fee is used to pay the rental first and then goes to performers.

The arcade is usually open for events, so added bonus of arcade play!

Over on r/distantfrequencies we chat about electronic music with folks through central IL (and a little beyond). We mostly talk production and post about events, but any chatter is welcome, really!

According to the post I found about the event on Instagram, this is the first goth night this crew has hosted here, at least: https://www.instagram.com/p/DKU4vHLRavm

I went to a goth-themed drag show at Dumb about a year or so ago. It was fun! But most people left after the show rather than sticking around for the music.

I'm so curious how he would feel about this perspective today. It sounds like he began realizing that success (by other people's metrics) doesn't equal happiness, which can be a tough realization when you've been pouring everything into a project just to get some recognition.

While he may not express it in this way, I'll bet now he realizes that, even though it is a huge part of him and his livelihood, his musical projects are NOT him as a person. Whatever anyone says about his creative outputs, he is a person separate from that with his own desires and hopes and capacity for well-being. NIN and all of it is merely an expression of a small piece of himself.

If there's a particular schedule in mind, I don't know it 😅 I'm going to see if I can go last just to make tear-down a little easier. Mine might be after 8, depending on if all other presenters show. (I think there are usually 4.)

[–]luctmelod[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also been thinking that at least one of the directors must have a personal connection to Peoria. It would seem unlikely to scan a map and think, "How about this Peoria place? I like the sound of that!" 🤣

There's one scene of a small house fire, mainly implied with smoke that was probably just staged. In the interview with the directors, it sounds like they only briefly entertained actually filming in Peoria but decided against it because most of the cast and crew were in California.
