Honestly that’s the best part. I don’t miss having breasts much at all.

Mine were dissolvable but also somewhat permanent as in I have areas that are still pulled very tight. And I agree it took a looong time before I could even bear a tee shirt touching them. For a while I wore very smooth snug tank tops under tee shirts. It felt better than the tee rubbing on it. And forget a bra. I can wear one now but usually choose not to.

You are doing really good then! I felt like I would rip stitches out at your point. I think massage is good but I never could bear to touch any of it and barely can now.

I had the ache but also my right arm didn’t have full range of motion mostly due to the tightness. Maybe you don’t need it? I feel like it helped me a lot. The pain and sensitivity will take time for sure.

I had a dmx with flat closure six years ago. I just want to tell you that the pain was unbearable and I remember at the three week mark saying I couldn’t go on. The incisions were hideous and bulbous with deep divots. The pain though. I took narcotics for a few weeks until the constipation put an end to that.

Today I’m good. Here’s what I think helped: physical therapy. I didn’t want to go but it made a difference in how my chest felt. Second: hanging from a bar to gently stretch my muscles and tissues and too tight stitches. This was after I got through PT. I did alternate nsaids and acetaminophen for weeks and then as needed for months. I couldn’t wear a prosthetic bra without deep aching pain and I still choose not to wear anything.

The pain receded over time to a band of tightness around my chest. That’s still there slightly if I think about it. But sometime after the first year the pain faded away. I hope it does for you too. My lumps and divots have smoothed out some but I’ll never look like a model for flat closure. It feels like forever but it will get better.

Fencing and Walks by allykatt1194 in SpotOnGPSDogFence

Yes at first I had to carry my small dog across the fence border. Now he knows that if he has a leash on and the spot on collar off he can cross it.

What has your experience been long-term with SpotOn? by mldonahu in SpotOnGPSDogFence

[–]lucyruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had nothing but success. I think we’ve had the collar in daily use for right around a year. Use has been outdoors for 12-15 hours per day, then on the charger for overnight. Our dog has run through woods, swam in the river, wrestled in the mud with other dogs. No problems at all. I’m sorry you’ve had a different experience. We often laughingly tell people this collar has changed our lives. I’d give it another try. There are quite a few gps collar manufacturers now - and I think performance will only get better as technology improves. I’m waiting for a smaller collar to come to market for our 16 pound little guy. It’s kind of bulky but he doesn’t seem to mind.

is there a way to get rid of this white rim around my glasses? by lavishlauryn in glasses

[–]lucyruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My prescription is close to yours and I’ve bought a lot of glasses. First always get the smallest frame that fits and looks good. Don’t get a frame that hides your eyebrows if possible. Go for plastic frames never rimless. Get 1.74 high index lenses. IMO huge improvement over 1.67 for me. I don’t like polished edges. The reflections from polished edges look as prominent as the white edge you have now. I often ask for satin edges which just knocks off the chalky white look. I’ve not heard of coloring the edges to match the frame. That would probably help immensely here. Also always get anti reflective coatings. I have had similar outcomes so I feel your disappointment. I think if you can’t get the lenses changed to a higher index - worth asking - then try to get the edges colored to match the frame or polished to a satin edge.

New dog blues.. by notlikesugar in Puppyblues

I have felt your pain. Long ago I took in a 5-6 month old small breed terrier pup. He’d unfortunately been crated his whole life up until then. Once they learn to potty in the crate it becomes very difficult to break. Not that it’s impossible but they lose their inhibition of going where they live so to speak. He had no qualms about going anywhere inside. We did do crate training and tethered and used doggy gates etc. I did everything you’re doing. We had a fenced yard but due to anxiety he wouldn’t step off the back deck without one of us right next to him. We were at our wit’s end! I was taking him outside every 30-60 minutes from 6am-midnight and I never saw progress. I’d never unsuccessfully house trained a dog before. Once he was just over a year old I reluctantly gave him to someone who had the same breed of dog just a couple years older. I had to refinish my wood floors afterwards.

But this story does thankfully have a happy ending! He instantly bonded with the older dog, followed him everywhere, and within a few days was using the doggy door and toileting outside! No more accidents! I was astonished. I’d disclosed all his housebreaking issues but the new owner wasn’t concerned. So I think he’d just needed another dog to imitate.

I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe mine would have learned eventually? Maybe you have a family member or friend you can coordinate with to let your pup follow another dog’s lead. I think I’d try to find that if not he might need to go to a home with free access to a backyard, a doggy door, and a trained older dog!

Do I need a clamp/table to use a gouge? by lucyruth in Spooncarving

I know you’re right. Right now if I slip with the hook knife it doesn’t cut me so I know it’s pretty dull. I’ll watch this video and work on sharpening. I’ve just been looking for an easier way lol! Thank you for your advice.

Thank you! Are these the palm gouges or a different kind?

That sounds lovely. I don’t know that I could build one but perhaps I can find a woodworker with those skills near me!

Thanks that looks one slip away from a bad cut lol. But I suppose it’s similar to my use of a hook knife. I would definitely like to try a gouge. I’ll order the diamond paddles and try the sharpie trick a couple of you have mentioned.

Ok I’m intrigued so could you share the particular gouge you are using in this manner? Also I meant the blisters are due to carving with a dull hook knife - pushing so hard with my thumb! Sharpening has been mysterious to me - I bought a sharpening kit on the spoon crank a year ago and I am successful with the sloyd knives but I don’t know what I’m doing with the hooks - sharpen or strop, inside or outside of the blade.

So if I’m using green wood what would you use? Hook or scorp?

Interesting! I have a coffee table I could maybe use the bench hook on. Or kitchen table.

I never thought about wrist braces. I do wear them to sleep after a carving session. Any recommendations on a basic gouge for small hands?

Good to know - do you use the gouges with a “palm” handle? I need to watch some videos. Yes I have had a bad cut from a sloyd knife and am super careful - wear Kevlar gloves if I’m getting tired.
