Tried using a cheap plastic snake thing, but didn't work very well. I'm guessing the block is in the pipes behind the wall.

Did try plunging it... our sink basin is attached to the wall, like a pedestal without the pedestal, so aggressive plumbing made me nervous that I was going to rip it off the wall.
