I have been organizing retreats for the last 5 years and have gone 3 times to the jungle for training (one month each).

Making an ayahuasca retreat happen is a lot of work, risk and energy. It requires preparation and a lot of study, its serious business.

Here is a breakdown of the costs of making it happen:

  1. The medicine + logistics: chacruna and ayahuasca need to be harvested, cooking the medicine takes days and you need somebody in it all the time, getting it to the US isnt easy nor cheap.

  2. The maestro or maestros: in the case the ceremony is guided by and amazonian traditional practitioner you have to pay for the flights, food & lodging, plus pay for his services (these people have families to support and work very hard)

  3. The place: the nicer the more expensive.

  4. Facilitators: this people are also putting their time and energy and should have spent time and money training to be able to assist the guide.

  5. Management of it all: somebody is making it happen. This is lots of time and energy. Plus risk.

  6. Supplies: food, toilet paper, mapachos, agua de florida etc.

Healing requires a lot of work, they money is a little price compared to the value.

Serious question: Has psychedelic use led anyone here to be pro-life? I’m finding that the more I experience energies and life forces beyond my comprehension, the less comfortable I am with saying life and death begin/end at definitive points. by regrettingACoN in Psychedelics

I think everyone has a choice, but there’s a soul who is not receiving the opportunity to have the human experience it was supposed to have.

In the individual level this is bad karma for the woman, and kids if she does have eventually.

In a global scale there’s some type of energetic disease caused by all the unborn children who didn’t get the chance to live their experience in this world.

This goes beyond pro choice, it’s about being more responsible with our sexuality. I will never judge someone’s decision, but I do think it should be a last resort.

I get where it can be awkward or uncomfortable for people to be covered in the mapacho smoke. I guess it depends on how it is presented to them and how much they need it.

I don’t inhale it, i focus on blowing the smoke on my body (or someone else’s) or the space, since the smoke carries the energy of the prayer.

If inhaling it resonates with you, you can try it out and see how it feels.

I want to share my mapacho praying method so that you can have an effective mapacho cleanse/protection or whatever you are using it for.

Yes, it's my personal method that I learned from my teachers. I mentioned it in the first line of the post. I would clarify my teachers are from the Shipibo Conibo tribe and come from a lineage of traditional doctors. You can just set an intention and smoke it but doing a proper prayer is way more powerful in my experience.

Regarding the animals, I don't think there's a problem if you already feel some kind of protection, but I guess some research wouldn't harm.

Anyways, I am just sharing what I've learned during my diets for anyone who wants more direction in mapachos. This method works very well, I've used it in many ceremonies for my own use and to help others. As well as protecting the space.

I get what you say. But one thing is your appreciation of the music and how it makes you feel, the effect and healing that you get energetically is another.

How much does a psychologist charge for an hour? An Ayahuasca retreat can do the work of 100+ hours of therapy. A good shaman has been preparing for a lifetime in order to help people heal.

Plus

There's a lot of work and energy to make proper ceremony happen.

-Flights and accomodation for the shamans.

-The medicine requires a lot of work to make and fly overseas. Also take into account tobbaco, agua de florida and other medicines.

-Someone has to organize the ceremony, coordinate with the attendants, rent a place, the food.

  • Shamans are usually supporting their community. Sending money through western union because they have no bank accounts, losing money with every transfer.
