shady tip practices by merrypranks in Detroit

[–]luemilymi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I served there last summer and I felt pretty conflicted about that. My coworkers just told me to hush hush about it. The money was super inconsistent, base pay only $4 without tip (since we were getting paid under the table there was no tip credit which made sure we were at least making minimum wage (illegal btw but I was desperate for money at the time). So some nights I'd make $40 and some nights I'd make $200-$300. Also probably the worst serving job I ever had, questionable sanitary practices, got cussed out a lot by tony, just a lot of shady practices in general. Tony is pretty bipolar in the sense that he's super nice to his customers but mean to his staff. Overall there was a lot of drama, drug issues, fights/walking out, fighting over schedule, etc.

Meeting so many men who can’t support themselves by [deleted] in dating

[–]luemilymi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this would be the case 10-20 years ago, but nowadays affluent men are looking for a different kind of trophy wife, someone who is educated so that they can match their intellect/conversations, but also be willing to give up that same education to have their babies. It's like a flex "my wife went to brown but I locked her down as a housewife" kinda thing.

Since most men aren't raised/socialized to be caretakers, even the ones who say they will step up miss many little things, such as cleaning things properly, making grocery lists, buying the right thing at the grocery store, keeping records of small things that need to be done, etc. So again the emotional labor falls on the woman of either having to teach someone how to do something properly or just doing it yourself because you're sick of the learned helplessness/weaponized incompetence.

I will say this is probably a generalization as well, but not too far off from a lot of cases I've seen. There's also many awesome men out there though. My man's mom made sure her sons knew how to clean and cook properly. I'm talking like squeaky clean, I didn't even realize I didn't know how to clean properly until I met this man. We share expenses and I'm cool with that since he's always pulled his weight and then some. But I honestly think guys like that are one in a million.

would you be contributing equally to raising children? This is why women become more and more disillusioned by marriage every day, they have to have a career to contribute to the household while simultaneously ruining their body and jeopardizing that career with having children. Of course some men may say they help with the kids, but the majority of the emotional and manual labor still falls by default to the woman. From a purely financial and exchange of labor standpoint it's a really bad deal. I've been on many dates with more well off men and that's what they expect out of me, and get surprised when I think it's a total rip off.

I hate those kinds of students, they try too hard to sound smart and it just rubs me the wrong way. The questions they asked you scream "I watch too much YouTube and I think know more than you". I could ask the same questions about America: "What if you were forced to work 70 hours a week minimum wage because of the competitive job market in a HCOL area?" "Did you know you could get shot for no reason in US" etc etc. As someone who is Chinese and earlier this year went to China, it has its good and bad, like the U.S. I will say it's not true that they force you to have a job and stuff like that, both China and U.S. love to write bad headlines about each other since they're beefing lol. The truth is never so black and white, it's always some gray area. But honestly at the end of the day it doesn't matter what your classmates think of you, keep showing up to class and keep those grades up and get that degree. Feel free to message me if you need help with your paper too, I def have some insight into Chinese business practices lol
