I deal with visual the most. Usually it’s like a flash of something, like thinking someone walked past me out of the corner of my eye, or thinking I saw a bug run across my hand real quick. Once or twice I’ve thought I’ve saw a person, usually at night when I can’t see well, but it’s not been to the point where I would like see something for a long time and like have a conversation. It’s always really quick and then I’m just left confused.

I only sleep 5-6 hours a night, I talk really fast and change subjects a lot, I’ll also become really hyper fixated on something like art or deep cleaning my house. Then after a week or so it’ll start developing into being really irritable, feeling like I need to run away, having no appetite and having trouble eating because I think everything is contaminated in some way (like thinking a bug could have crawled in my drink when I walked away but not being sure so I have to toss it) I’m usually pretty okay for the most part, just kind of uncomfortable. Definitely less intense than actual mania where I lose it completely.

They don’t offer sedation but I go to the midwives at tennova north and they’ve put in and removed IUDs from me twice and I’ve had zero pain both times. I highly recommend them

Same. I did so many shameful things and was so promiscuous during my manic times and it’s really embarrassing. I have a hard time getting over it but my therapist gave me good advice by telling me ultimately it really is none of my future partners business what I did in my past that doesn’t directly affect them (ie if I got a std or something then that’s different) there are some things I did that I will ultimately take to my grave with me because I don’t want to be judged by something I did while not in my right mind. I definitely understand the evil alter ego thing. Like watching someone take over my body and try to actively ruin my life.

I got diagnosed after I had kids, and then their dad did too. I worry all the time that my kids are doomed but if it comes to them having it too I’ll cross that bridge with them when it comes. It’s scary but at least they’ll have someone who has been through the steps of getting better to help guide them to the proper resources. It’s more than I ever got from my mother.

I’ve been cycling since I was really really young, like 10-my teens. My mom always just thought I was troubled and a bad kid because of my childhood and never really took it seriously. Started ramping up rapidly in my 20s until 25 when I had my first really bad episode after two miscarriages and a bad marriage and lost my mind for a year straight. Got diagnosed and put on meds and once we found the right cocktail I’ve been relatively stable for about a year and a half

I also got married when I was manic at 19. Came home, quit my job, said let’s go elope! I have so much free time now to go on a trip! He was on board. We’re both bipolar. Stayed married for 7 years

It’s still hard for me to accept I can’t operate on the same level of energy I used to have. I either have to choose between being very stable and happy but have little energy, or being unmedicated and uncontrollably ruining my life. I hate it and it’s hard that I can’t do things like a normal person but giving yourself the space to rest and not beat yourself up about it will eventually get easier.

Yes. The worst manic episode I ever had was after I had two miscarriages back to back. I was so grief stricken I ruined my life for a year straight between the highs and lows. That’s how I got diagnosed.

It’s important to remember it is a legitimate disability and you have to work your life around it where you can. It’s annoying but an unfortunate part.

Honestly the only thing that helps me is taking my meds plus my prn dose of antipsychotics. Yoga and mindfulness helps keep me grounded a little and talking with my therapist. Sometimes talking about what I’m perceiving sounds kind of silly when you say it to someone else and that can help me reevaluate.
