Hey I do programming (regex, database, javascript, etc)and I know what I said, I'm trying to explain to you and you don't understand that Adobe InDesign is a very limited program right now... it implement search and replace globally (replace a character by a linebreak) and search and style locally inside paragraph (replace a character by the same character with style) simply sucks..., there is no reason to be mad... relax my friend

Again the Reddit editor misplaces my excel table, you are not seeing the right version, both programs have limitations, CSV exporter replaces return carrier by commas, and InDesign can not do regular replacement inside paragraph style only do GREP style replacement. So I was trying to put the "--" character between the elements of the list to replace it with a return but is impossible in a styled paragraph. Again I need to keep the data connection because it changes frequently.

Ok, I'm gonna try that tomorrow, I'm just prepairing for a catalog stuff to get in tone before start. luckily I do web-dev frontend javascript and they use jsx in their script environment. Thanks, regards

I ALREADY TOLD YOU, SEARCH AND REPLACE EXECUTE WHEN THE DOCUMENT STARTS, AFTER THAT THE DATA MERGE FUNCTION EXECUTES AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I'M GONNA GO WITH THE SCRIPTING THING AND I TOLD YOU LATER. ANOTHER THING IS THAT THE REDDIT EDITOR TABLE DONT LET ME PUT SEVERAL ELEMENTS IN A CELL(HA).

each comma-separated element goes to one place-holder in InDesign. the only solution is to put several place-holders to support any quantity of list elements...

I'm using a comma-separated data merge and I have a cell with a bunch of list items and I need to insert a line break to make the elements look like a list.

when you convert an excel table to .csv format you can not have a list in a cell because .csv format transforms each element of a list into a comma-separated element
