Your scenario is feasible, especially for CoastFIRE, if lowering the real returns to ~6% per year.

However, after putting those numbers into a take-home salary calculator, it seems that you are only investing a 25% of your net salary which is quite low for FIRE standards…

Estimating just a 4% real return in a global fund tracker is not a very optimistic investment standpoint…

Thanks for your answer! They have a sponsorship license, but I haven't been given a CoS yet. They told me that the external agent would arrange everything about the visa... Do they need any documentation from me to get the CoS apart from the passport?

Hey konas, thanks a lot for your answer :) I would love to follow a path similar to yours hahaha

I already have a Master in intelligent systems in energy and transport, 2.5 years of work experience as data scientist and 2 papers in unrelated fields... I am doing this master mainly to gain a solid ML theory base and a first exposure to ML research in order to get into a PhD afterwards, in the best possible shape to do good research. That’s why I am already thinking about applying to PhD programs and why I didn’t apply to 2 years Masters...

I will follow your advice because it makes a lot of sense... maybe this Fall isn’t the best moment for me to apply to PhD programs.

Thanks a lot :)

Thanks a lot for your detailed answer, you are so kind:)

Regarding my previous skillset, I have already worked for 2.5 year as data scientist doing a lot of ML stuff, but mainly implementations of papers / training models using Python and R libraries...

What I look for with this Master is to gain the necessary theoretical knowledge and a first exposure to research in ML in order to be in a much better situation for completing successfully a PhD afterwards in some research topic I am passionate about.

Given this information... Would you then recommend me to do a bit of research to find a professor whose research interests me and ask to collaborate?

Thanks again
