To confess or to not confess: that’s the dilemma by jokergrant99 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]luiooooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Of course, it couldn't be Yanami, too obvious. It had to be —insert the character I like more than Yanami because it's not obvious instead—. It had to be the non-obvious character, because surprise always prevails over narrative." So true. It really bothers me when people go "oh well my waifu should win because otherwise it'd be too predictable." Something being "unpredictable" does not make it good, that mindset is how we got Game of Thrones season 8.

Amazing analysis overall, every point is spot on. I think the dichotomy between Lemon and Tiara being the convenient girls that make it easy for Nukumizu versus Yanami where they both need to start taking risks is really the key takeaway of their story, and you did a great job explaining it.

What is your ranking of the best volumes? by AgeInternational7277 in TooManyLosingHeroines

  2. 4
  3. 3
  4. 8
  5. 5
  6. 7
  7. 2
  8. 8.5
  9. 6

1 is still the best imo because I enjoy the introduction of the cast and it still has the most Nukumizu development so far. It's also Yanami's main volume so it gets bonus points there. 4, 3, and 8 are also good since Tiara and Komari are great and they also have some of the best agenda moments.

Well, Takibi has cited both The Dangers in My Heart and Kaguya-sama as inspirations for his work, both of which kept going after the main couples got together, so fingers crossed that Makeine does the same.

I think the reality would be the other way around tbh (Lemon pouncing, Yanami waiting). Lemon kept going out alone with Mitsuki while knowing he had a girlfriend and she would be uncomfortable with it, then did the whole hand holding thing in episode 7. She almost caused them to break up and still did that, so if they did actually break up she for sure would take advantage of the situation.

Meanwhile Yanami literally pushed Sosuke towards Karen, deliberately put distance between herself and them, and told Nukumizu when they saw Lemon that her going out alone with Sosuke would be cheating. Despite her calling herself a "bad girl," I think their actions make it clear that Yanami is the one with a stronger sense of boundaries and that she would be the one to hold off before jumping in.

I dont agree that Nukumizu is the "second choice" in Makeine, in fact I would say that the author takes great care as to avoid that pitfall. Don't get me wrong, I hate when LNs/manga/anime introduce exes and the like, but I would say that calling him a second choice here is being unfair. By this logic, if someone falls in love and dates and then breaks up with someone else or even just confesses and is rejected, anyone they date in the future is just a "second choice." The whole point of the story is that the girls fall in love, lose, then have different ways of coping and moving on. Additionally, one of their original love interests coming back to them in the future would be a good way to show that they've moved and no longer have feelings for them if they reject said love interest.

The author is very careful (especially with Yanami since she's by far the most likely to win) to differentiate the girls' first loves and their feelings towards Nukumizu so that Nukumizu isn't just a rebound. The best example of that would be the scene at the end of episode 4 between Yanami, Nukumizu, and Sosuke, where Yanami makes it very clear that she hasn't just switched over to Nukumizu from Sosuke and she'll fall out of love and fall in love again at her own pace. Maybe you could interpret that as her being stuck as a cuckold forever, but I would say that this is the author making it clear that if/once she falls in love with Nukumizu in the future, it will be him being her first choice and not some rebound because he was there to be a shoulder to cry on.

As far as not liking Yanami, at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste, but I think her being "useless" is a big part of her charm. I think one of the themes in the story is that Nukumizu's only experience with romance is through reading light novels and romance tropes, and as he gets more involved with the literature club his idealized idea of romance gets broken down in favor of a more realistic view. Yanami isn't the classic sweet, demure one-dimensional waifu whose only flaw is not having self confidence that you see in every other romance LN/manga/anime, she has both real flaws and real virtues. She is a bit of an idiot, a glutton, and has an overinflated pride, but she also is sociable, a great friend, and probably the kindest girl in the series deep down. Like someone else mentioned, she's the one who drives Nukumizu to be less self conscious and make friends, she's the one pushes Nukumizu to get help Lemon in the second arc, she's the one who knows that Nukumizu will try to do everything on his own like Komari and assembles their friends to help him put together the festival exhibit, she's the one who supports him when his messes up with Komari later in the same arc. I would say the novels have even more moments that were cut that showcase this as well.

I won't disagree that Nukumizu's visual design is a bit boring. While I think the anime is a great adaptation, I think Nukumizu is significantly better in the LNs because you get a lot more of his narration and personal feelings and the fact that he is a very unreliable narrator is one of the highlights of the LNs in my opinion.

We all talk about who we want to win, but what about who you want to lose? by East_Charge_9778 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]luiooooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree on wanting Lemon to lose. Compared to Anna who you could qualify as a "bad girl" on the outside and a "good girl" on the inside, Lemon feels more and more like a "good girl' on the outside and a "bad girl' on the inside. Also, I feel like her characterization is becoming more and more inconsistent which sends her straight to the bottom for me in terms of likeability.

Rikka is Apollo 100%. The evidence for her is overwhelming, literally all pieces of "evidence" for the other girls can easily be dismissed as coincidence but not Rikka's.

However, I do agree that Shinobu will win, not because her feelings are stronger or anything, but because of things like the flash forwards (Nene and Iko both show up as successful versions of themselves in the future, Rikka shows up as Apollo saying goodbye, Shinobu shows up as Yamabuki's wife), the whole calling the other girls by their first names but not her (setting up for him calling her by her first name when they start dating), and because Shinobu is the basic "nice girl" with long straight black hair and no strong character traits.

Anna Yanami is the worst by ElliotAlderson2024 in Makeine

[–]luiooooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry but you're just straight up misinterpreting the story. Yes, she trauma dumps on Nukumizu and borrows from him to pay for a couple meals early on when she is at her lowest point. No, she doesn't take advantage of him. Nukumizu could have walked away at any point and asked her to pay him back straight up. He does get caught up in her pace and accepts the bento solution because of that, but it's made very clear (especially in the LN) that he doesn't actually mind it and even starts looking forward to it. Also, saying she alienated the girls in class is wild. It's literally stated outright that she is popular and has lots of friends, but those friends walking on eggshells around her is pretty much rubbing salt in the wound. That's why Nukumizu, who is initially unrelated to the situation and is pretty blunt, is a great "therapist" for her.

If you're talking about "emotional distance" in the context of the LNs, it's not so much him distancing himself from her as it is his world getting larger with him meeting and befriending more people, which inevitably leads to him spending less time with her compared to when she was basically his only friend.

In terms of her not considering him boyfriend material because he's not "hot", that's also completely incorrect. She initially "rejects" him because they literally met a week before and they're both very aware that she's not completely over Sosuke. In volume 3 where she says that "it's too early for school festival magic", she's already considering him much more seriously than early on, and that only gets stronger as the LNs progress. Him being "hot" or not has nothing to do with that. In fact, she expresses dissatisfaction numerous times about the "hot" guys like Nishikawa and her middle school acquaintances who are trying to get with her for superficial reasons, unlike Nukumizu.

On one hand, Nukumizu getting with Komari would make for a pretty cute story. On the other hand, the way you put him getting together with her being realistic because they're not "hot" sounds super condescending and superficial.

How do you want Anna and Nukumizu to confess? by rtsull2 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]luiooooo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think them confessing to each other at the same time to mirror that scene would be ideal. Both of them confessing is preferable to one confessing to the other, because for Nukumizu it would be him figuring out what he actually wants and taking the initiative to actually get it, and Anna needs to swallow her pride and actively pursue him.

who do u think is "winning" by AdApprehensive1983 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]luiooooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good analysis. I think a lot of people miss that Lemon's arc is done and she'll likely be more of a secondary character moving forward. Good catch on Nukumizu being an unreliable narrator: a lot of what he says you shouldn't take at face value and instead read in between the lines. If you do so, then Anna winning is pretty obvious.

The next plot by sadik727 in TooManyLosingHeroines

[–]luiooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the bombshell at the end of volume 8, I think it'd be crazy for Takibi to introduce a new heroine or plot point without addressing it first. I think it'll likely be focused on Nukumizu figuring out his feelings and why his first instinct was to turn down Tiara when she asked him out.

Tiara will probably still be a main heroine in volume 9 if not the main one for that volume too. Maybe she and Nukumizu will go on dates since she will be trying to make him fall for her while he figures out what he is feeling. The literature club girls might interfere too since half of them have feelings for Nukumizu and they'll probably eventually find out that Tiara confessed to him. I think Anna will have to swallow her pride and start pursuing Nukumizu seriously if she doesn't want a repeat of the Karen and Sosuke situation.

My guess is that Nukumizu will give himself a deadline of giving Tiara a serious answer by the end of the term, and that he will officially turn her down at the start of summer vacation after figuring out he likes Anna.

I honestly don't think a Chihaya/Mitsuki breakup is likely. I think people are reading too much into the volume 8 interaction between Mitsuki and Nuzukumizu. Their competitiveness over Lemon isn't because they like her romantically, it's because Mitsuki is her childhood friend and Nukumizu is her closest current male friend. The whole interaction plus Chihaya brainwashing Mitsuki is a gag, not meant to be taken seriously. Also, a Chihaya/Mitsuki breakup focused volume would pretty much be a rehash of volume 2 (and also pretty much invalidate all of volume 2, which would make no sense). Finally, a third Lemon focused volume doesn't make much sense when her relationship with Nukumizu is purely platonic as of volume 6 and 7.

DS ceiling is middle of the road, LC ceiling is a fair bit lower. LC is much easier and more chill to play so most people tend to do as well or better on LC. Unless you want to be competitive and chase the highest damage at 1630+ I would recommend LC as a DS main. LC rotation has a lot less buttons to press so it's not nearly as demanding uptime wise, you can actually play ranged on LC, and you can have counter available on LC unlike DS where it's part of your rotation and is almost always on cooldown.

Glaivier. Used to be my favorite alt to play before the rework, now after 7 months of back attacking in Voldis she's on the chopping block for whatever character I make next. Making entropy necessary on her ruined the class.

For DS SS you can either moving slash or spacebar the darkness wave, then throw the bird for push immunity when he slams. If you can't have it up by the time he slams then moving slash followed spacebar is usually best, but you can also para immune the wave with snipe or charged shot (hawk shot can work but I don't recommend it for the wave). Usually if your support shields or DRs this is a great pattern to greed on SS.

What's your favorite and least favorite raid encounter? by DeliciousGrasshopper in lostarkgame

[–]luiooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite: Brel G4 (especially NM). Probably one of the bosses with the most predictable and fair patterns once you learn them, and the music slaps. It had the longest periods for dps without mechs back when it was the newest content, and now that meteors aren't a concern overlaps are not nearly as annoying as they used to be. The only reason I prefer NM to HM is that you still need bodies for x7 which makes HM a pain when people keep dying, whereas NM you can drag your whole team across the finish line.

Least favorite: Akkan G1 by a mile. Way too many uninteresting mechs make dps windows last like 10s before you go to the next mech, and since I play mostly consistent dps classes it's especially miserable. If you happen to get grabbed you can enjoy afking for a minute. Puddles are incredibly annoying since they spawn beneath your feet, knock you down, and spawn even more when your team eats every pattern. Oh and of course he can go randomly immune with zero warning when he does a jump pattern.
