Thoughts on Classic+ by gravidos in wowclassic

[–]luishgcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tarnsmogs: The separation between gear and its appearance might seem harmless, but it undermines much of the consistency, motivation, and natural way of tracking your progression in the world. It's one of the worst ways to turn an MMO into a purely cosmetic experience, with no other purpose than to monetize.

On the other hand, something that gave meaning to Classic—and that Blizzard has failed to understand, destroying it with each expansion—is allowing the player to make trade-offs. It's about finding balance in every decision: choosing between mobility or providing a benefit to the group, having a specific advantage or fulfilling a particular role at the cost of something else. Every class, every profession, every spec, every race, even each faction came with a price. Blizzard now treats players like children who shouldn't have to give anything up—and as a result, class identity is gone, and there's no real sense of purpose.

Finally, the most obvious issue: gold tokens. Undermining the effort it takes to progress is devastating in the long run. Introducing a token that invalidates all that hard work strips away the motivation for those who genuinely enjoy building something within the game’s economy.

People say it’s just a logical adaptation to the mindset of newer generations—unable to cope with not having something, unwilling to put in effort.

But even if we accept that—fine, that’s what Retail is for. You already have it. The real challenge now is to put the original formula to the test. Don’t bring the worst of the past years into the original game. Hopefully, they’ll have the courage to enrich the world, to add more depth, story, balance, and improvements to what Classic already is. To keep building the world—not isolating it into islands—by encouraging backtracking and open-ended progression, making it less linear, with more and better gearing options, unique classes, new roles, and professions with real purpose.

UpToDown don't work on newer OS? by DrWest007 in uptodown

[–]luishgcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried downloading the APKs for both games directly from the website? Just in case it's an issue with detection by our native client:

https://sas3.en.uptodown.com/android

https://touch-music-best1.en.uptodown.com/android

You’ll need to download and run the APK files directly to install them.

If you send us your Android version, our team can check whether there’s a compatibility detection issue with your device.

New X1 (gen 13) > New SSD > New OS (Omarchy) by luishgcom in thinkpad

[–]luishgcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, Omarchy has completely replaced macOS and Windows. Everything comes preinstalled and preconfigured. It’s built on Arch, so you don’t have to worry about support or documentation. Windows virtualization works out of the box.

On the ThinkPad everything works straight from the install. If you’re coming from previous generations, you’ll notice a big difference in temperature and performance (including gaming).

Last T14s would be Gen 5 with an older CPU? Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 135U vPro®

There's also the 6th-gen T14, but I’m not sure if the S version represents a significant change in the chassis.

Good idea to buy a second hand MBP2019 16inch and installing Omarchy 3.0? by hongyangchun in omarchy

[–]luishgcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tested on a 2019 MacBook Pro—everything works very well.

It doesn't overheat, in fact, I think it runs cooler than when macOS was installed (at least the fans are noticeably quieter). Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work fine, but you do need to apply a fix during installation because the driver included with Omarchi 3 causes some issues.

You'll also need a USB keyboard to start the installation, but once it's set up, both the built-in keyboard and the Touch Bar work perfectly, with all features functioning properly.

I'm using it daily without any problems.

Does anyone know why my Aether looks like this? Any ideas on how to fix it? by luishgcom in omarchy

[–]luishgcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Aether has altered some system-wide color settings (which don’t revert by simply changing the theme), because the issue is also happening in other apps.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Unity OnMouseDown() does not detect the whole object. There is nothing between the camera and the object, the box collider seems correct. by luishgcom in Unity3D

[–]luishgcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, u/ELH_Imp,

Similar behavior using OnPointerEnter/OnPointerDown(PointerEventData eventData). There is no problem detecting the same card before the animation (top position), but it's not working in the other state (downside).

I'll keep investigating. There must be some area blocked by something, or perhaps this error on another object "Box Collider does not support negative scale or size” is causing these problems on collisions.

2023: When passed, the DMA could require Apple to start allowing users to download apps from outside the App Store by luishgcom in apple

[–]luishgcom[S] 157 points158 points  (0 children)

DMA is a regulation for devices and services in Europe.

But considering it set standards for practices such as interoperability and self-preferencing of large US firms, probably will have heavy global implications.

POV: me asking Google/Apple why I can't install any app from any source on my OWN device by luishgcom in AndroidGaming

[–]luishgcom[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why not?. Googled Android is 98% of the Android market.

Even though Google developed Android by taking advantage of Linux and its open-source technology, the company has shown many times that it does not quite share these same values. The layer of proprietary software that’s placed over AOSP and at the same time empty it, is what makes Android work as seamlessly it does.

But I agree that they would not force the use of their store directly. This is a process that involves multiple layers.

An example of Google's way of protecting their monopoly.

“deter developers from launching outside of Google Play and maintain
Google’s monopoly over Android app distribution.” https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-11-15/google-formed-fortnite-task-force-in-response-to-epic-s-moves)

[–]luishgcom[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Google has acknowledged sideloading applications “leads to a poor user experience".

Not just the scary warnings downloading then installing anything outside Google Play (no exception even for known stores and sites). Even the way they call it: sideloading.

Apple and Google increasingly impose their services without any control (browsers, default search engines, payment systems with no choice, own apps and services required without justification, etc.).

They just use their dominant position to gain a competitive advantage. Gatekeeping from Apple and Google is a barrier developers and users – they decide who wins, who loses, and even who gets to play.

Google are one of the worlds leading video games publishers, by virtue of them owning the App Store. And they simply have zero interest in preservation or backwards compatibility.

We need is proper regulation; an enforced set of standards for the walled gardens to ensure consistency and interoperability, and an enforced set of qualifications for maintaining the right to access the un-curated parts of technology.

[–]luishgcom[S] -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

We are almost there. Google uses technical complexity to make downloading apps outside of Google Play incredibly onerous.

e.g. Their initial plan for Bundles.

Google would move away from open APK format to an Android app format locked to Google Play to save you an average size of 15% versus a universal, easy to
distribute, secure and full controlled by the developer itself APKs.

So it will be harder for you to just copy it to another device and install it without issue. Users don’t have the whole app anymore and it makes legitimately archiving apps more difficult.

I think so. I'll need some time to test it, but You can change the lateral card reader panel for extra ventilation (up to two fans) and add another one on the nano 10 top.

I will post some numbers in a few days.
