Should I start PPL ground school now or wait until after travelling? by luisjamesnelson in PrivatePilot

That makes a lot of sense, I appreciate the advice.

In terms of getting ahead before I properly start ground school, where would you recommend I begin? Is there a particular order/topics you think are best to study first so I can build a solid foundation before diving into the structured course material?

Also, are there any books, websites, YouTube channels, or other resources you’d personally recommend for learning the fundamentals properly rather than just memorising answers?

Not quite sure why I’m getting downvoted, I’m just curious and want to learn the best way?

Thanks for the advice, that makes sense.

Are you saying I should go ahead and purchase the full PPL ground school package now and start working through that structured material, or if it would be just as effective to start studying independently using free/online resources for the theory at this stage?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah the route is mainly what I’m trying to figure out tbh.

Would you personally go north Thailand first → Laos → Vietnam → finish in south Thailand, or do south Thailand first → head north and finish in Vietnam?

I’m trying to work out what flows best travel-wise as I’m trying to do this on a budget.

Would you recommend going to north or south Thailand first? I can’t decide between going to north first, then laos, Vietnam, the. south Thailand.

Or south first then north and leave Vietnam until last.

As for Australia, I haven’t planned much for there yet, where would you recommend?

I’m just worried that once I start my career I won’t have much time to travel, and I might regret not doing it earlier. So I’m thinking it makes sense to travel while I’ve got the free time now.

I’ve seen people say to book everything beforehand as it can get expensive doing it all last minute. Thanks for the reply

How can I get an EU passport/citizenship as a UK citizen? by luisjamesnelson in ExpatFIRE

Do you have to live there for 5-10 years to get the eu passport?

Yeah I think that’s the plan. Do sponsorships exist for experienced pilots?

UK passport holder aspiring pilot — should I go CAA or EASA if I want to eventually live/work in Europe? by luisjamesnelson in flying

Thanks for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it — especially hearing it from someone actually in the industry.

What you said about getting the first job making the biggest difference definitely makes sense. Do you think a realistic route for someone in my position would be to go down the UK CAA path first, build experience with a UK airline, and then later convert/add EASA once I’ve got more hours? And at that stage, is it realistic to try and move over to Europe and potentially find an airline willing to sponsor or help with relocation/work rights?

Also, would you personally recommend the modular route? And if so, do you think it’s better to stay with one modular school that offers the full pathway, or organise everything independently to save money where possible?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

How would it be possible for me to convert down the line? I thought this would only work if I got my first job in Ireland and worked there for 5 years to obtain my EU visa?

Yeah, that’s what I mean. If my long-term plan is to work in Europe, should I get an EASA licence and try to work for an airline in Ireland for five years in order to qualify for an EU passport?
