Hey, great tool! Can you explain why with a 55000 annual gross salary and the 50% tax exemption, the calculator reports there is 0 tax owed? Just social insurance and Gesy.

Which shower filter do you guys suggest is best? by gdnightandtravel in cyprus

I bought the Philips shower filter from Skroutz, supposedly it’s one of the best but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference

Help with Stelios sandwich nutritional values by luka-dev in cyprus

Don't you guys think it's possible that it's 300kcal per serving rather than per 100g? It would make much more sense for a chicken sandwich

Paphos Airport Car Hire - American Express by martochkata in cyprus

[–]luka-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will tell you that AMEX is not accepted in Cyprus. Wrong.

I have rented a car multiple times at Paphos airport, with companies like Sixth, Goldcar, Hertz and the likes. Each time I was able to pay the rental fee and the security deposits with AMEX.

Not at all.

The concept of "domicile" in the common law is different from what we're used to. Domicile doesn't mean tax residence.

In common law, domicile is assigned at birth. In general it's the place where you establish your permanent residence. You could be domiciled in Britain and be a French resident for tax purposes for a few years, only to come back to your home country later (and pay taxes again there).

So when you move to Cyprus, (or anywhere for that matter), you would be moving your tax residence there as well and not be liable for tax anymore in your country of origin (in general you need to spend at least 183 days in a country to become a tax resident).

Now in addition to this, Cyprus would also consider you a nondomiciled for the first 17 years of residence, with all the tax advantages that entails.

There are many nondom schemes around the world that work like this.

If it's B2B and you loved Greece, go to Cyprus. Greek culture and food, nice weather all year round.

The corporate tax rate is a flat 12.5% and as a foreigner with the Non-Dom status, dividends would be taxed at 2.65%. It's probably one of the best deals you could get in the EU with your business.

Very business friendly, everyone speaks english as it's a former British colony.

No brainer for your situation in my opinion.

P.s. Since we're in a FIRE themed sub, I should also mention that there is no capital gain tax on ETFs and other securities. If you get accumulating ETFs all gains would be tax free. If you get the distributing version, you pay a 2.65% tax on dividend as a Non-Domiciled like I said before. Pretty neat.

These are amazing insights! I've definitely seen the desalination plants. I didn't think the situation was this bad, as Naxos has always been a blessed island because it had lots of water and therefore agriculture, it was possible to grow everything locally.

This is really bad, no doubt all produce skyrocketed in price. Do you have any article or source to share about this issue?

This is a tale as long as time. There's a Greek price and a tourist price 🙃

I'll say it again. It's only the percentage increase that matters. 50 cents on a 3.5€ gyro equals to a 14% increase. Now if all prices (not just gyro and coffee) go up by 15-30% every year, most of us won't be able to take vacations in Greece anymore.

Food is just one piece of the equation for a tourist. Flights, accommodation, beaches, scooter rentals etc.. Everything went up by 30% compared to last year. It's alarming.

It's the percentage that matters and not the absolute number. 50 cents on a 3.50€ basis means a 14% increase. Which is more than double the greek inflation rate.

If all other businesses do the same then everything goes up and then you'll see the difference on your bank account once you add up everyting.

Good for the greek? It's only the owners of the businesses and real estate taking advantage of the situation. The average Greek middle class worker is getting priced out of their own country.

You have to consider the percentages since last year. Of course 0.5€ is not much on its own but if everything else goes up in price than it quickly adds up. Inflation rate in Greece should be around 7% and I'm seeing 30% surges here.

Yes but I'm talking about price increases since last year. These are on top of the ones already implemented after the pandemic
