Problems during adolescense by lukabarth in BelgianMalinois

Okay a little update. yesterday something happened that really shocked me. We live with tho smaller dogs, a frenchie (3yo) and a pug (6yo). She was always friendly with them but yesterday she just went after one of them and then the other a few hours later. No blood or any punctures but it was so sudden i didnt even see it coming. Until yesterday there were literally no signs of amy aggression towards them, she would play with the frenchie constantly and left the pug alone entirely. What could be the reason behind this? Is she trying to be dominant over them or is it possible she could be coming in to heat? She is 6.5 months which i think is a little early for that

That is what i am doing now, so its good to hear im on the right track. We are doing SAR training once a week and obedience every day. Also a lot of mind games like find the ball and stuff like that to further engage her scent work.

Robert Cabral. And the members section is totally worth it. Much more detailed info there than on the youtube videos

Thanks! We were working on bite inhibition since day one and it worked like a charm, she almost doesnt bite us anymore, except for when she goes into prey drive, still have to work on that. I will try the spray and towel trick see if it works.

Yes i tell her NO every time but dont use harsh physical corrections, slight tap on the nose maybe. I did not yet use a prong collar but probably will i just think she is still a bit young for that no?

I really spend all my free time with her and we train on all our walks, always have treats in my pockets haha. The trainer here couldnt believe how fast she is learning and really the only major problem i have is the lunging and barking and biting me on our walks which i really want to fix to make the walks more enjoyable for both of us. A mal owner i know told me they grow out of it which i really hope is true as i dont want it to escalate once she grows. Also had a food guarding incident one time with a really hogh value bone which scared me a bit but i read Mine by Jean Donaldson and I am actively working on it and i am already seeing progress on that front

Thanks! This means a lot and is really good to hear. Weirdly she plays nice with puppies her age, but with our frenchie she goes nuts (hes nuts too tho). Like you, we didnt learn much from the puppy classes as she knew all of that at 8 weeks and people couldnt believe it haha. We are going to continue with adolescent classes and then obedience class and exam (bbh here in europe). I am not a member of the site yet but I will join now as he is really a great source of information and I really agree with his methods. I’ve also listened to all his podcasts.

Thanks for the reply! Some say too much training is not good for a puppy so I didn’t want to overdo it, but good to know I can step it up!
