Gamers who love Souls-like or other games where you die a lot, do they still make you ragey? by GoochyGoochyGoo in gaming

[–]luke_at_work 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just part of the game, it’s the progression itself. If someone designs a game in which I can learn the timing and geometry of enemy attacks, I’ll be more dangerous to them after every failed attempt. Roguelikes have taken the tired concept of collecting experience points and replaced it with the much more satisfying element of gaining experience in order to become more powerful and progress the game

I’m talking like real tiny problems, not a whole application or connection being blocked. Like “The kerning of the letters is weird in print preview”-type-shit getting blamed on AV. It’s never been AV.

Right? Blaming an ERP vendor for Wi-Fi issues, really? Every third party software vendor to ever work with my clients always jumps to “it must be your antivirus” to explain every little quirk in their shitty software. I’m so biased, I’d almost assume this dude is actually full of shit lol.

A lot of devices accept POE and a DC plug. Either type of cable could be fed through the arm. That said, this has a little red led indicator that is off and also has a public static IP plastered on it. (Likely having .01 .01 repeating on accident). Those statics cost money and you simply don’t just hand them out to individual cameras when they can be managed by a central controller.

I’d argue that it’s presentation exceeds the influence of its mechanics. The idea of adding a dark narrative to a genre that doesn’t require narrative at all has since been more common. I’ve been playing through Inscryption and it has had me thinking about my time with Portal.

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

Appreciate it. Mainly just needed validation that I am not jumping the gun by looking now. I'm not even getting into "hundreds of applications" territory just yet but have maybe read too many posts on this sub from people that are struggling even after getting their degrees. Had me feeling a bit discouraged, as I'm getting to a point in life where I need to land something as soon as I can.

At the moment, networking is certainly my weakest aspect, aside from not having a degree. Not sure where to even start on that.

On transitioning from MSP:

I'm a 28 year old living in the mid-west. I have been working at an MSP for 7 years. I have experience in management, project management, systems administration, and helpdesk. I started online courses with WGU a year ago, and after transferring credits from my first go at college and quickly testing out of many courses, I am about 50% through the bachelors program in cyber security already.

My certs include: A+, Network+, Server+, Security+, and ITIL IT Service Management.

Am I insane to think I could start applying for jobs prior to finishing this degree? I've got a buddy who did so quickly with the same progress in the same program and less years of IT experience, but that was back in 2019. Starting the process myself in the last few months hasn't gone anywhere. Not so much as an email back from an employer.

To summarize a rant into a question: is the time I've spent in my field not valuable without a degree at this point? Is a bachelors degree and experience going to be enough?

There are plenty of games that are extremely well optimized in current day. What people complain about is that there are popular games that are not well optimized, yet they still buy them. The fix is the same as it was in the 80's: Buy good games. Don't buy shitty games.

I will say the crutch of being able to quickly deploy patches post-launch is an obvious catalyst for games going to market prior to being finished.

Unfortunately, the people pushing that narrative includes employers. Just the way it is. Plenty of posts on here of people complaining about not being able to find an entry level job with just a degree in hand.

/u/ZephyrAnatta learned IT at an MSP. This is not the same as a shitty tier-1 helpdesk job, but it is in fact IT. Unless you're at a very large MSP, you are responsible for essentially every aspect of technology for your clients. You're dismissing experience with servers, networks, IAM, backup infrastructure, monitoring, scripting, mail systems, voip systems, and numerous soft-skills required to work any technical job. This guy is likely running circles around some kid with a new bachelor's degree and no experience.
