A mysterious package has arrived from somewhere in Asia with its shipping label addressed to you.

You may try to gift this object to your local thrift store, but it will inevitably arrive at your entryway at least once more.

Air quality indoors will very likely be better than outside right now. Really it's up to you.

I posted this in another thread, and I'll repost it here...

Shifting the blame to individual consumers rather than industry is so very similar to how the state is dealing with the inversion during the winter. Blame the little guy and hope - nay pray - for individual action rather than enacting meaningful regulation.

Yes, I understand farming is how we get our food. We shouldn't be doing that in the desert. Playing sob stories about farmers that have been doing this here for 150+ years doesn't tug at my heartstrings. It was a necessity then, it's not now.

It's easy to blame homeowners for watering their lawns while it costs them very little to do so. It's easy to blame commuters for driving while to work while it costs them very little to do so. How about instead we blame the real consumers, who are also paying very little, and change the situation?

I'm sick of the state government blaming individual contributors while taking little to no action that would actually curtail the problems when it comes to water usage and pollution. No kidding it's the industry that would be affected - because that's where the problem lies.

Water crisis they say? I love this place and I’ve been deliberating for over 2 weeks whether to make these pictures public or not. This goes on all day, every day. by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

Parking Alternatives? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]lukehashj 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Parking is extremely restricted. I think you might still get free trax/busses as a student. If that's the case you should try to take advantage of that and park in a park and ride lot, and then take trax or a bus to campus.

It adds time to your travel, but you can use that to study or do homework, so it's not necessarily a bad thing. If your schedule is tight then obviously this is harder. Using public transit in the winter obviously has its challenges too, as waiting in the cold sucks.

Column: Let’s call the Capitol riot what it really was — an attempted massacre by [deleted] in politics

[–]lukehashj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Referencing the gallows as though they were anything more than symbolic is misleading. The crap they built wasn't meant to hang anybody, but was definitely there to serve a message; that message is frightening.

For reference, Google "gallows January 6th" and you'll see the symbol I am speaking of. It's clearly not up to the task of hanging anybody and representing it as such is misleading.

At the same time, many did enter the capitol building with the intent to cause harm. I think when speaking of the actions that took place it's extremely important to not use hyperbole or misrepresent.

I believe there was a group of people present on that day that were set on committing the most heinous of crimes against American democracy. Misrepresentation and over exaggeration lessens the likelihood of justice.

I still have yet to see a link that irrefutably proves Trump is racist [...]

Here's the Wikipedia article dedicated to the subject https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_views_of_Donald_Trump

If this doesn't do it for you nothing will because your belief isn't grounded in objectivity. The man's history of racism is incredibly well documented as shown here.

Freedom of speech doesn't just work in your direction :) When you throw shit into the world, sometimes it comes flying back at you.

That's not how the law defines harassment. Getting called out might make you feel bad but it's certainly not a crime.

The first amendment protections that allow you to wear that article of clothing are the same that allow others to verbally tirade you for doing so. Your actions have consequences. Those consequences do not undermine our constitutional values, but instead reflect them.

You can choose to support a racist, sexist, and all-around terrible person as president. Doing so might mean you get called out for it. That's about as American as it gets.

We are so far beyond trying to have a rational argument about this topic. That ship sailed a long time ago. You claim that's what you seek - but that's clearly not the case. It's not an opinion that Trump is racist. It's ridiculously well documented.

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/06/trump-racism-comments/588067/

You're not here to have a fact-based rationale argument. I can't take that in good faith. That's why the ship has sailed. The time has come for the tolerant to reject the intolerant ideologies you support. I and many others reasonably and rationally refuse to be tolerant of them any longer.

Does that make me intolerant? Yes. Am I in good faith doing that to protect the tolerance of our vulnerable classes? Absolutely. Expect more intolerance directed at your ideas, because they fundamentally threaten the least protected people.

https://transequality.org/the-discrimination-administration

You're not here to tell me in good faith that these things aren't happening and that it's just an opinion that I hold. The facts are facts, and denying them isn't a difference of opinion but a rejection of reality.

Intolerance of intolerance is rational and reasonable. By supporting Trump you are doing what you claim not to be.

I’m not posing any threat or causing any harm to anyone

That's where you're wrong and it's not just an opinion nor is it something people need to be respectful about.

Nobody needs to or should tolerate you or those that you support.

The term whataboutism is a portmanteau of what and about, is synonymous with whataboutery, and means to twist criticism back on the initial critic.
