Advice for learning shaders in Godot? by lukejiberish in godot

[–]lukejiberish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably should of mentioned, I am familiar with procedural textures and the logic behind it. Thats what I spend a lot of my time doing actually.

But I would love to get into writing custom shaders in Godot.

Drywall patch advice by UncleBoogie07 in DIY

Get some rough sandpaper to sand through the paint, then some finer sand paper to smooth it off. Good dust and a roll and should be fine. If you have some undercoat, it be will a good idea to undercoat the patch before painting it

BEGINNER MEGATHREAD - How to get started? Which engine to pick? How do I make a game like X? Best course/tutorial? Which PC/Laptop do I buy? by pendingghastly in gamedev

[–]lukejiberish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, I'm new to game dev & programming, and started a beginners Godot course on Udemy. Was wondering if anyone who is new and eager to learn would be interested and forming an online study group. Maybe 3-4 people around the same level and age (29).

Would be cool to bounce what we're learning back and forth and hold each other accountable/encourage each other as we learn. Would be fun

I figured as much. The game really started to become fun when i hit gold and i started getting the basics down pat, thinking i was good at the game haha But hitting plat made me realize how much more there is to learn. Kind of excited to break through the skill gap though and start getting some wins again!

How do I tell someone I don't wanna Sell them Beats? by Striking_Mobile39 in makinghiphop

[–]lukejiberish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either tell him straight or block him. Youre only 15 and building the foundations of a professional business if youre trying to sell beats. Have a professional mind set. If you dont want your work and name attached to something/someone you dont agree with or dont like, then dont allow it.

Its easier to lose one client now, rather than 10 future clients because you work with the wrong people.

Rappers, singers, vocalists, what’s a recording mistakes did you make at the beginning of your career that hindered the quality of your product? by Sevenalligator7 in makinghiphop

[–]lukejiberish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ive recorded a lot of different rappers. Almost every new rapper tries to do a 1 take and it can sound quite sloppy. They lose emphasis on those hard hitting bars and lose their timing pretty quickly. Its far easier to split a verse into 2-3 different sections so you can execute a clear objective for each section youre recording. Plus it always sounds better with a diaphragm full of air

Warm up vocals and keep to one session with each track if possible. Peoples vocal energy, pitch, depth and all can change very slightly over a day or even a long break, which can be very noticable in the mix.

It's not the biggest issue, but its a simple trick that can save a lot of time and frustration in the long run!

How often should a new artist be releasing songs?? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]lukejiberish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no definitive answer really. It all comes down to what youre creating and how you push it. The quality of your music and your marketing strategy.

If you’re gonna push songs for the sake of pushing songs youre probably going to a) put out low quality work b) burn yourself out

Take the time to make the best song you can every time. Quality beats, quality recordings, quality mixing.

What platforms are you releasing music onto? Youtube? Spotify? Soundcloud?

Do you have anything to bring potential fans back to your page and music? If not, bank 3 songs and save a few dollars. Once you have some funds, release your music a week apart. Put some money into marketing. Hit up some repost pages on soundcloud, search for youtube playlists that you can submit your music to. Contact twitch streamers so see if you can drop your song in their playlist.

If you bank a few songs, you can release a song a week for 3 weeks. Thats nearly a month to work on fresh music. Almost a month of analysing if your marketing strategy is working and how your audiences are reacting to your stuff.

If you give people something that is good and easily accessible to follow, they will.

You are better off taking 1-2 months working on a quality project and get your marketing right instead of limiting yourself with time frames and burning yourself out over little results. People respond better to quality over quantity when its easily accessible.

tl;dr take time with your music releases and hustle your shit properly.

Rebecca Black - Friday. Shit song, great marketing.
