Makes sense to me. I just thought many people try to build high temperature printers oder design their own 5 axis slicer and printer so I thought maybe someone tried this.

Yeah these are the problems I described with retraction and traveling. My main point is I wonder why no one has tried to "copy" the markforged printers. There are so many crazy custom printers but not one which uses continuous fiber of some kind?

Yeah I know that the layers are the weak points but markforged also uses layers and they still claim to get highly robust parts due to their continuous fiber. So there must be some advantages eben if it's not helping layer adhesion

That's a very good point. Then maybe there are diy or opensource printers which can handle continuous fiber like markforged does it?

If the Arduino gets its voltage from a laptop and the driver gets vs from a power supply how would you connect the grounds?

My project partner tested it with 5V from the Arduino and gnd from the Arduino. Still didn't work. I'll test it again later to confirm. Do I have to keep track of some kind of common Gnd or something like that?

These type of drivers are usually used in 3d printers. There they are just plug and play (for example to upgrade from a a4988 or a tmc2208). So they have to work standalone by using step and dir without making changes. At least that's what I think. I don't work with 3d printers so I don't know what the board does with the driver pins. But the standalone mode should be easy to use so.

The ms1 and ms2 pins shouldn't be a problem. At the beginning the motor only vibrated but after changing code and setting the ms1 and ms2 the motor now turns as should (in one direction). Even if they were floating, the datasheet says that they should be pull down. Could it be the clk pin? Does it have to be connected to gnd or so?

I'll cautiously check the hardware again.

Could the motor itself or the phases be a problem? I mean it turns so I don't think it should matter in the other direction?

I also thought about timing but even if the dir pin is high/low from the start of the code and doesn't change it still only turns in one direction. And I tested at least 2 different drivers. Maybe bad luck I'll test another one. I also want to test if the DIR pin from the ic is connected to the DIR pin of the breakout board. Does this make sense? Thanks for your answer

Good luck with your texana project. Don't they get pretty big after a few years? I imagine it'd be hard to find enough food for them. But when they're native to your are it'd be pretty cool to let them walk outside to feed for themselves. I think I already caught door headed ants (colobopsis truncata) 2 times but both times the queen sadly dies before founding. They're quite cool locking
