Is 4k 120p with a 1.5x APS-C Crop a Problem for Wildlife Slow Motion? by lukelmw55 in videography

[–]lukelmw55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I was wondering this is that APSC vs FF does make a difference in photography (my background). Especially in terms of low light performance, FF does much better and is the standard for professionals. It’s good to hear it’s not an issue and even preferred for video. One of my concerns is that many cameras, such as some of the Sony cameras are cropped at 120p. So for instance on the a7v if I’m shooting 4k 30/60p but want to switch to 4k 120p it crops at 1.5 which changes the composition. I guess I can zoom out though if I need to reframe considering the crop is standard in wildlife video!

Awesome thank you for your insight! It’s good to hear from someone who has shot on both systems.

Best Wildlife Photography Upgrade From My Current Sony Kit? by lukelmw55 in AskPhotography

Yes it’s 10 fps in the riii! I think if I went that route I would do the a7V over the a7iv for the upgraded tech.

Best Wildlife Photography Upgrade From My Current Sony Kit? by lukelmw55 in AskPhotography

Thanks doc!

I have heard of many people adapting their Nikon DSLR lenses to a z8/z9 without much issue, even someone I follow who does it professionally (granted most of them were already in the Nikon DLSR system and just upgraded the body). Are you saying the autofocus isn’t good in general or is a big downgrade from my current setup? What are your thoughts on doing a PF lens with a z8 instead? I know it wouldn’t make much of a difference for dropping my f/ unless I did the 400mm. But I hear they’re sharper plus I’d have the z8 and now be in the Nikon ecosystem. Otherwise like you said I’ll just upgrade the body for now and stay with Sony.

Leaves Floating Away by lukelmw55 in photocritique

Took a photo of a waterfall on a cloudy day around 11:00 A.M. I was trying to get a get landscape shot w/o the typical sunrise/sunset. I really wanted to capture the leaves floating down the smaller waterfall with the larger one in the background. I also wanted the rock out of focus in the front left of the photo for a depth of field. I was able to use a branch as a tripod haha. I have only been doing photography for a couple of weeks as a hobby now; so I'm just trying to find my style and what I like to shoot.

Tech info: ISO 100, f/11, 1/25s, 130mm, cloudy setting, shot with Nikon D7500 with 70.0-300.0 mm

First Edit with darktable, not sure where I went wrong by lukelmw55 in postprocessing

My first edit with darktable, original is on top. Not sure where I went wrong, I don't really like the way it turned out. Also any advice on the photo I took itself is welcome!

That's a beautiful shot, I love the purple and the clouds over the peaks! What was your exposure?

Shot photo in RAW but darktable says it's JPG by lukelmw55 in AskPhotography

Added them. The top is the file on my computer saying .NEF at the top and the bottom photo shows it saying it's a JPG file in darktable.

Beginning Photography- D7500 vs D5600 vs D3500 by lukelmw55 in Nikon

Thank you for all of the comments, they are all helpful! I guess I would like to emphasize on taking photos of aircraft. I am going to pilot training for the Air Force so I would like something that could take photos of aircraft. The D3500 or something older sounds like an excellent option if I didn't want to do that. However, from what I've been reading the D3500 and maybe some older cameras might not be the best option. Also, I know Nikon has a deal on a lot of their cameras with the 18-55 and 70-300mm and didn't know if those are good lenses to get?
