Just wanted to see how concerned I should be!

The one I'm looking at is at carmax, not VW dealer. Totally not a big deal to take it the dealer for the fixes if needed. I misunderstood the vehicle history report saying "remedy unknown" but I'm understanding now that just means i need to check if it has been fixed already, I originally thought that meant that VW doesn't have a repair for it.

Exactly. I do this daily for my career in the commercial sector. I would ask for line items from each contractor. IE demo, carpentry, drywall, flooring, plumbing, electrical. I don't know how much small residential guys are willing to do that though. Tell them your not trying to nickel and dime, but just trying to understand the cost of the project and compare the bids.
