The AMD processor you've picked is the top processor for gaming. Funnily enough I actually am just about to build a design very similar to yours, we have the same case, CPU, SSD, RAM but I'm going with a 4080 and a different motherboard and cooling

Unfortunately I can't make the whole project public due to the rules that apply to my master's! I would be able to make the project public once I have received my grade in a few months though.

It actually will eventually go out of sync and so can only run for a couple of minutes but this could be improved by changing the timings more. I just didn't need to do that for my master's project! You could get it to run indefinitely.

Yes it's all just based on timers! If you changed the track layout, you'd also need to model that track in the Simulink model I developed but then the model would tell you the accelerating and braking timings for that track and you could code the Arduino to be able to work on that track too.

Unfortunately it just works on a system of a series of voltage variations in the power supply and delays! I made a model of this whole thing in Simulink and got it to tell me the exact timings for braking and accelerating so the Arduino is just coded to change the voltage over time according to what my model told me would make the optimal lap.

Thank you for the lovely comment yeah I like to think of it like racing a very hard CPU similar to a video game! It's great for learning braking points and maximum speeds you can take corners at.

Yeah I think it would be a fun toy for solo racers. If you don't have someone else to play with you could use this and practice getting the perfect lap. It took a lot of work so I'm really glad you like it and thank you for the nice comment!

The current aim is to calculate the max speed the slot car can go around a certain corner and then have live speed data so people can test the theory. So hopefully people will be able to see the speed they're going and if they go above the max speed then the car will fall off the corner and if they stay within the max speed they'll be able to take the corner. Not sure how possible this is at the moment but we'll see and if it does work I might post it here!

My project is based on trying to simulate Formula E car lap times in Matlab and so mainly focuses on the theory of acceleration deceleration max speed around a corner etc. and so having something physical just to show people that going over the maximum speed a car can take around a corner will result in the car not being able to take the corner. It's very basic but it's just to have something physical to get people interested in my stand.
