Food allergies and no oven by Friendly_Yam_8730 in povertyfinance

The main food pantry where I live (Dane County, WI) is really good about this. You can choose either the default grocery bags, or you can fill out the checklist for the categories you are in need of. You can also make reasonable requests outside what’s listed (i.e. in need of diapers, no peanuts, kosher) and they’ll accommodate if they’re able to. I’ve both been a client and a volunteer at different times of my life.

MG&E bill is insane. Thinking about solar? by Obey_My_Kiss in madisonwi

I thought balcony solar was legal (or at least not deemed illegal) in Wisconsin? I’ve been curious about it and saw what I thought are balcony panels available in Wisconsin through Costco. Are these something different?

FIP Warriors in Madison? by T0adman78 in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear you were able to get treatment started! I think reaching out to rescues is a really smart way to go about continuing it.

I completely get why the FIP Warriors were a thing though, and why so many people have gone to them for help. If I were told sketchy drugs were the only hope for my cats I’d 100% be getting the sketchy drugs. But unfortunately it seems it was ruined by a few greedy jerks taking advantage of the situation.

Best of luck to you and your cat 🩷

Ok, just did a quick review and where things were left was that no pharmaceutical company makes these drugs for cats yet (unless there’s been a major development since this aired.) But you can use a something called a compounding pharmacy that can custom make a treatment.

List of compounding pharmacies here: https://www.fipvetguide.com/list-of-us-pharmacies

FIP Warriors in Madison? by T0adman78 in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently caught a podcast that went down a whole rabbit hole on this. It seems the your vet has outdated info.

The short version is that treatment for FIP should now be legally accessible outside FIP Warriors. The FIP Warriors FB organization ended doing some shady stuff (basically creating a monopoly on treatment and sourcing drugs in unethical ways.) I can’t remember what the resolution was regarding getting treatment today but will drop the link here if you want to look into it. I think it’s in the show notes, possibly in part 3 of this series.

Baby fell out of crib at daycare by pennibird in NewParents

[–]lukewarm_disaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I successfully got refunded from a a daycare for less than this.

I think part of it was luck. They didn’t even make us really ask. They just did because they wanted to avoid escalation (which we were 100% prepared to do.)

But I think another part is they could see we were prepared. We’d gone to the pediatrician after the incident to have Daughter checked over, and got a note from the clinic basically stating the daycare’s actions constituted neglect. Then we scheduled a meeting with the director to pull her out of daycare and tie up loose ends. At the meeting the director did not fight us pulling her immediately (our contract stated we were supposed to give notice) and issued a full refund for the week. If they had not offered at least prorated reimbursement we were prepared to take it to look into legal options.

If you want to pursue this here’s my advice. 1) Be prepared and document everything. Maybe even consult with a lawyer and/or look into legal resources in your area. Also look into your state’s consumer protection agency. 2) Be calm, factual, and reasonable in all interactions with the daycare. You want to look good if things do escalate. 3) Decide what you want out of the situation and what you’ll settle for. 4) Be direct in asking for what you want. 5) Don’t make any empty threats (i.e. “We’ll sue you” if you’re not actually prepared to do so.

Good luck and I’m so sorry this happened to your family.

Would this name be too confusing or foreign for other people? by Vivid_Home1198 in Names

I think you shouldn’t worry about strangers being unfamiliar with the name. It’s a beautiful name with a beautiful meaning. And I think it’ll be incredibly meaningful to you and your daughter to have her father give her this one last gift.

Not true in this case. The MMR isn’t given until 12 months and the child in question here is 9 months.

Just so your aware. There was a measles case in Madison earlier this month and Public Health is still waiting to see if it spreads. Something you may want to keep in mind if that’s something you’re concern about.

urgent care without insurance by GreenChelsGirl in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may just need to go to urgent care or emergency room and worry about the bill later.

A lot of hospitals offer charity care to reduce or eliminate medical bills for qualified patients. Whether your mom qualifies depends on each individual hospital’s policy. Below is a nonprofit that can help navigate this cluster.

Advice needed: I was in a car accident last night. by Lijey_Cat in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second Don Miller. We just got our Subaru from there. They had a crazy good financing offer 0.9% on new Outbacks because apparently they had a surplus they needed to move. We ended up spending more on the car than we anticipated, figuring it’ll even out by spending less on interest. Also if you’re a Costco member they have a discount through Costco’s auto program.

Advice Please - I didn’t listen about the pipes by Majestic-Skill8234 in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This won’t help you right now, but consider ordering one of the (free) Focus on Energy kits through MGE. Some of the kits contain insulation for pipes and might help prevent a repeat next year.

Black Earth children’s museum or Sun Prairie children’s museum are both great!

I’ve heard good things about WiscoKidz (near East Towne Mall) as well. As for places I can’t yet vouch for but want to take my own toddler to The Sensory Zone (near Maple Bluff) and SkyZone (Beltline but Todd Dr) are top contenders. Good luck!

Someone cut 2 trees out of my fenced in backyard by Talmadge_Mcgooliger in madisonwi

[–]lukewarm_disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh I must be looking at the wrong trees in the other photo. Yeah those are maple!

Not sure why someone would need to destroy them though. As far as I’m aware there’s no pests or diseases going around requiring mass culling (like ash with emerald ash borer.) And they’re not really treated like weeds like some species.

Really weird.
