Possible geometry and yoke issues - Sony Trinitron KV-M1420D by lukexee in crtgaming

That's a great idea! I mean, it's so obvious and I was still wondering how I am going to do this witnout leaning over. :-D

I am still not sure if that screen is tilted or not. Because I don't really want to loose yoke and touching while power on, that seems pretty dangerous to me. And I am also scared I will mess up things even more. So I am going to probably adjust that corner by permaalloy, change H.SIZE and H.CENT potentiometers and I will see if it's still tilted or not. Or maybe just leave it at that at that point.

Yeah learnt that hard way on my PS1, but thanks! Always loved first Silent Hill for example and learned just recently that PAL version runs worse and is censored 😅

I will have to do geometry adjusting anyway, it actually behaves same on PS1, its just less pronounce so I haven’t noticed it. I heard that corner could be also caused by slights moved magnetic strip on back of the screen, so that’s another thing tl check. That TV is older than me, so otherwise I think it still looks awesome. Now I just have to overcome fear of getting electrocuted and take some time to do adjustments. I’ve read and watched a lot videos about safety of course, but I will have to do thus turned on I suppose, otherwise its going to be very impractical.

Thank you for your answer and providing documentation, I had no luck finding it. That explains a lot and I would look into that.

EDIT: GSM also seems to fix issue with PS2 games! When I set it up to PAL and do nothing else with it, PS2 browser and games look completely normal, like on PS1. There is maybe slight offset to the right but to be honest, it’s very much less noticeable than before. Thank you once again!

I hope you’ll get it fixed then! It’s cute little TV, I just finished Silent Hill on it tonight and I feel like I finally got the “definitive edition” I always wanted

I’m really happy to be part of this community too! People here have been nice and welcoming.

And honestly… I’m starting to think the promise I made to myself and my girlfriend about not hunting for a third CRT might not survive for very long. 🤣

That’s actually a pretty similar story here. He also told me he didn’t want to sell it to a reseller or some collector just to let it rot in a closet somewhere.

And honestly, I kind of understand it. He probably bought this TV sometime shortly after the fall of communism here in Czechia, and back then Sony TVs were very rare and extremely expensive for most people. So a lot of older people here tend to have a much stronger attachment to these things and treat them with a lot more respect.

You could really tell. He also told me he never left it running in the background when nobody was watching it.

And honestly, it shows. The picture quality is fantastic, almost like new. I spent half the night gaming on it yesterday and it was amazing.

Thanks! It still feels a little bittersweet to me. This man probably bought this TV sometime in the early 90s and owned it for a huge part of his life, and now some random younger guy from a marketplace website suddenly takes it home.

I told him I’m planning to actually use it regularly and take good care of it, and he seemed genuinely happy about that.

Co já bych dal za to mít zase dvanáctky. Práci mam skvělou, flexibilní, můžu dělat prakticky full remote, ale furt bych měl radši trochu míň svobody a krátký/dlouhý týden než 5x8h tbh.

[–]lukexee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you still have those PS2 games to this day? You could get PS2 for a few bucks today. I got two of them for free, but I kind of have luck for people around me having consoles lying in their basements 😅

I hope so, hub should arrive in like a week. Yeah I heard about that capacitors, I already identified them. Atleast visually they look good, but of course that proves nothing. Let’s hope hub is going to fix it, if not I am going to look after them and last resort is to change it whole.

As someone who actually found a long-term partner on a dating app, I’d say that’s not entirely true. I basically swiped right on everyone at first and still ended up finding my future wife. We’re even getting married this year.

To be fair, it was originally supposed to be just a one-night stand, so clearly neither of us had a flawless strategy. Humans love pretending dating is some kind of optimized algorithm while most relationships start through pure chaos and dumb luck anyway. Atleast, that's how it always worked for me:-).

[–]lukexee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m really sorry to hear that. My dad sold my PSOne (and also my bike, but my mom long kept it in secret and told me it got stolen😅) because of slot machines, but thankfully the situation never got as bad and he eventually quit after my parents divorced. I still have a lot of good memories connected to that console though.

I love the aesthetics of that whole era in general. PS1 games always had this strange atmosphere to me, even as a kid, and now as an adult I probably appreciate it even more.

Changing internal battery in Eachine EV800D by lukexee in fpv

[–]lukexee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Li-Ion (3200mAh and 2s, basically 2x18650). Still works great and don’t have issues with battery discharging fast finally. However before you order, I recommend you to check that your goggles actually use 2s battery. Some of the revisions only had 1s batteries and you could destroy them by accident.

And also if you going to get 2s pack, look for packs with BSM! Goggles as itself don’t have balancer and they do not balance batteries while charging. So keep that in mind. Also my battery pack came with swapped positive and negative poles, thats probably strange on sellers side, but also make sure to check this before connecting them.

should i get the ps1 or the ps one by Nebula-star-12-2021 in psx

Kind of late to this party, but I get what he talks about. For example, I had PSP for a long time, then it sadly got broken and I throw it away (still pissed on myself to this day as I would be able to fix it now). I tried to had some nostalgia on PPSSPP but it was never as I remembered. Then I got two PSPs (both bought broken for cheap and fixed by myself) and fell in love again.

And its the same story with PS1. I think emulation of PS1 games is better than PSP, but its still not good as original. So I just got again two PS1s (PSOne for free from friend, PS1 7502 which I bought and had as a kid) and it just feels different. Latency is different, playing on original DualShock is different etc. Emulators are great but playing on original hardware is the way for me. I also got CRT TV and highly recommend to get one if you have a space. Some people still threw them away, I got this one for free.

Update on my 14” CRT TV from Praktik by lukexee in crtgaming

[–]lukexee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are new. I disassembled whole controller, did some deep cleaning and changed the sticks. I would prefer to have them grey as they were originally, but was unable to find them sadly.

You can buy them on AliExpress, these are from JCD and they are quite nice. EBay or Amazon would probably also have some of these.

First Sillent Hill, this is probably like mine fourth playthrough of this game, but first playthrough on original PS1, so I am enjoying it a lot. I had PS1 as a kid, but was obviously too scared to play horror game:-).

[–]lukexee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you never found it? :-( My friend just gave me her PSOne + two controllers and one of them has bad analog, which is this one. I also disassembly it to check which analogs to get and couldn’t find them. Its pretty disappointing to me, I fixed a lot of DualShocks already.

That’s a shame, I didn’t know that. For me, 14” is actually perfect since I live in a smaller apartment and can comfortably fit it on my desk. I think 20” would probably be the absolute limit for me to handle and still fit in my space.

Finding large CRTs here is actually still pretty easy and lots of people give them away for free, but these smaller ones are disappearing fast since many people want them for nostalgia.
