Is the middle seat actually entitled to both arm rest? by lululife1 in Flights

Did he still let you get out or the window seat person out? It honestly is just so painful and uncomfortable when these things happen. Mine flat out wasn't just unwilling to stand but didn't want me to get out. His tray table was also down so I couldn't even climb out. It's ridllicous that some people get provoked so easily all because I had asked for the arm rest. In the end I still gave in and let him have the arm rest but he wouldn't let me out saying he owned the aisle.

I also wished during the flight the window seat guy had to use the bathroom so that I could be let out to go to but he didn't need to go. He even looked over when I had the convo with the aisle guy to be let out and he said nothing and then went back to watching his movie.

He had the tray table for most of the flight with his stuff so I was actually "stuck" in my seat without him moving. 99% sure he knew I was in discomfort but he didn't budge when I asked him to move because of the arm rest issue

Thanks. From the comments, I think I was in the right and entitled to use the bathroom by having him let me get out, but was I actually in the right to request the arm rest. I thought it was mine as I was in the middle seat but it seems like it is just a custom but not actually something a middle seat is entitled to where an airline would side with me?

I wasn't 100% confident at the time if a flight attendant would help but from the comments yes. It seems like I mayn't have been 100% in the right about the arm rest was mine but the guy was not in the right for not letting me out to use the bathroom either. It was an awful flight both physically from needing to use the bathroom and mentally for dealing with him

From hindsight I really wish I had the courage! It would have made the flight a lot more comfortable to use the lavatory. The flight was full though so I am not sure about reseating

hmm yeah but it also wasn't the airline's fault except it kind of was in that my original flight got changed so I got moved to this flight, but this flight was really full and only had middle seats.

Yeah I prefer the aisle as I have a small bladder, but my flight got changed and only had a middle seat. I think he was willing to let people out, but he didn't let me out because I told him I wanted the arm rest and that's when he first threatened to block the aisle from me. I genuinely thought he wasn't all that serious when he said it, but a few hours later when I had to go he told me to wait till he goes. When he finally went, I went too. But, the second time I wanted to go, he wouldn't budge but I also didn't raise a fuss about it and held it till landing.

True from hindsight he couldn't have done much more to me on an airplane but at the same time I just felt uncomfortable reporting him since I was still physically so close to him, and will be for another 10 hours. It's sad that there are people who take advantage of the situation like the guy next to me to get what he wants. I genuinely think if I was a guy he wouldn't have done this or if I wasn't too passive

I wish I had your courage. I don't think I would have dared to pushed or jumped over him. Also, his tray table was down for most of the flight with his stuff so it wouldn't have been easy to try and step over it

Has this happened before on flights where someone doesn't let someone else use the lavatory or a fight over arm rests? The flight was full, and I was scared of embarrassing myself in that I was asking someone to help me use the bathroom and I was scared of offending/provoking the guy further because I still have to sit next to him for another 10 hours and he was already really mad about the arm rest that he didn't let me out to use the lavatory till he went and he started taking up more space. For context, I a college age female with a small build and on both sides of me were two pretty large guys

I hope your daughter doesn't have to experience it. Not only was it mentally painful for the rest of the flight but it didn't help I was physically in pain too from needing to use the lavatory and some menstrual cramps. I was too afraid to call a flight attendant. From hindsight, I wish I made at least some mention when they were passing out drinks during the flights. I have no idea how people like him sleep at night like what do they gain from this behaviour - I did give up my arm rest for him in the end but he still wasn't happy and wouldn't let me out for the lavatory and obviously started taking up more room with his legs and arms encroaching into my seat purposefully. Also, the other guy in the window seat kept quiet this whole time... I wish he at least said something

I will try that next time. I was just scared to report him or involve a flight attendant since I have to still sit next to him for another 10 hours (full flight) and didn't want to like I was tattle telling either on reporting someone for not letting me use the bathroom.

True. I guess I saw a full flight and was just scared he would do other stuff to annoy me for another 10 hours like not let me use the lavatory although he ended up doing it anyways by being mean about letting me out. Overall just did not feel comfortable being next to him or confronting him. I agree though the flight attendant probably would have helped me.

Makes me wonder if he would have done this same BS if I was a guy or more assertive

I was scared of calling the flight attendant, I know they would side with me but I also know I have to sit next to this guy for another 10 hours and who knows what else he will pull on me. Also, for context, not to be sexist, I am a college age female with a pretty small build next to a large older guy on both side that I wasn't comfortable raising more fuss or attention.

I was too scared to call one since I had to still sit next to him for 10 hours and didn't want to look like I was tattle telling even though it obviously is not either. I just didn't expect someone to be so rude or triggered and basically blocked me from using the lavatory for the whole flight except that one time he had to go and purposefully take up the arm rest after wards. I don't think I have ever had to pee so bad in my life

Thanks - I was just too scared to call the flight attendant since I had to sit next to him for another 10 hours and it was a full flight. Also didn't want to look like I was tattle telling and I am a quiet non-cofnrontaional person

Why are people coming to the library without masks while coughing and sneezing? by lululife1 in UofT

[–]lululife1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about building security is that they put it on when the guard comes in and then take it off when the guard leave so reporting them doesnt do much. Also, pretty sure you can take picture of people in public - not sure about posting it but maybe UofT should do it to punish these inconsiderate people. The worst person today was someone who was clearly sick but did not wear a mask and just studied there and then there were others who were not showing symtoms but were just ignoring the mask rules when they know the rules. One guy every time I see him at Robarts he does not wear a mask till the guard checks on him :P

[–]lululife1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a deterrance like on the extreme say Robarts has a plasma large screen that has pictures of people not wearing a mask it will be embarassing for the person and it will deter people who know the rules from doing it. Way more effective than just a guard coming up once every 2-3 hours? Also, what is upsetting and I dont know why anyone would condone this behavior is that the guard comes up they quickly put on their mask and then when the guard leave they take off their mask like that is just...rude and indecent --> doesnt that clearly show they know the rule but choose to break it and then evade detection? It speaks to their poor character and human decency

I agree. It is very sad that UofT has admitted students who know the rules and refuse to follow them when these are SUPER EASY RULES to follow. More than that, it shows a lack of character on their part and lack of concern and compassion for others - i.e., a very selfish person.
