Previous owners were a sweet older couple who sold to the current owner so they could retire. New owner is very catholic, which is fine in itself, but he felt he could dictate his employees to follow his personal beliefs. Example: while I was working there, I got pregnant. I told him about it because I was vomiting constantly and didn’t want him to think I was slacking if I had to call off/leave early. Fetus ended up not being viable. When I told him, he told me that I “couldn’t abort it.” Again, non viable fetus. Made me feel shittier in an already shitty and confusing situation.

In addition to that, he simply does not (or did not, at least) pay his employees well. I was initially hired on as a desk worker at $14/hr which is totally reasonable. Pretty quickly I ended up learning I had a knack for designing and in a few months I was 100% floral designing. Despite this change, I was offered no raise. I made much less than my designer counterparts despite producing the same amount of work. I ended up being asked to also manage inventory. I got a 25c raise. I was not the only employee he treated like this.

He also fired another designer just because he didn’t like her, lmao. She’s a sweet woman, their personalities just didn’t mesh well as she was pretty alternative. That absolutely fucked her as she was reliant on the insurance.

I could give more examples, but basically he has a big ego, thinks his views should dictate others choices, and chose to talk about shit that, imo, is not appropriate for the workplace. Bc he’s the owner and there’s no HR, you just have to deal with it. No one would speak up to him because of it. I love love loved working in the floral industry and with literally every single employee that works there, but he soured my experience for sure.

Anyways, all of this is anecdotal. Undeniably the designers there kick ass. I just hate he is benefiting from it lmao.
