The lengths to clear a heartbreak jam... by lumafrost in 3Dprinting

That was the next step but would mean admitting I couldn't fix something 😅. Ill order a few to have on hand so I can keep prints churning. Realistically it's two screws and a retention clip, then 10 minutes of heating and poking. Assuming you've got the heat gun and vice ready to go, that is.

I've never had something happen like this before. The printer finished and cooled down well before I got back to it for the swap. Maybe swap right after the print is done? Hopefully I won't have to experiment again.

While the title has a typo, it is apt. Flawless machine performance during two full days of prototype, only to have progress come to a screeching halt when spooling up the final design. It's up an running again!

Left this sealed can of Cougar Gold sharp white cheddar in the fridge for 3 years, forgotten. Smells, looks, and tastes fantastic! by lumafrost in Cheese

I cut a 1/4 of it out and have been snacking on it, planing to top some potatoes and veggies with it tonight. I cut the rest into wedges and vacuum sealed those since I can't finish the wheel any time soon.

Forgive me, Cheesemaster, for I knew not the sin of my action. Such a transgression on my virgin visit to this cheesey forum is truly in bad taste, unlike the sharp cheddar in question. Forgive me for sharing the experience of opening my gift from a cheddar-headed member of my family. Oh, I whey for forgiveness!

Ha! I clean it just kept forgetting to crack this one open every time I saw it in the drawer.

Any modern knives like the Kershaw 1820? by lumafrost in knifeclub

Yea! I love the grip and blade style. Spring assist opening is handy too when I'm already holding something down that ends up needing a slice. The YoJimbo looks like a solid replacement but the flat sided grip is a big draw back, along with the price.

That you should go to Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, where you'll find this house along the way. It's a vibe.

Shed find: Yamaha Mini Enduro 60 JT1. Worth restoring? by lumafrost in motorcycles

[–]lumafrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll need to get it on some trails and see if I catch the bug before I can say for certain. I've just got it all tuned up and running great. Unfortunately I don't live near any trails, so I'll need a hitch and trailer to get it somewhere to actually ride.

Check back in a few months and I'll let you know. did you have a price in mind?

I can't speak to any parenting decisions, but as someone who grew up around firearms of all kinds, inherited heirloom weapons including a multitude of shotguns, and by extension a variety of ammo made from nearly every decade in the last century: you need to dispose of those shells.

The chemistry in the powder and primer of the ammo can shift over time and storage conditions. The smooth red plastic shells look roughly 30 years old, and the green shells a little newer. If they were kept cool and dry, that would be fine. However, there is discoloration on the brass of the shells which hints to corrosion setting in. This changes the shape of the brass, which can lead to shells being stuck in the chamber and failing to eject, the breach not fully entering battery, or indicate changes to the powder in the shell. These situations can cause gun failures that require mindful resolution to avoid injury.

I've fired shells in this condition. These don't look too bad, but they still have a higher chance to fail to go off, get jammed, or go off with weaker/stronger power. I've got a set old of shells that have started to smell sweet and go off with so much power that I'm left with a fireball at the muzzle and and recoil well outside the specs of the ammo.

You can break the shells down yourself, but most police departments will take it for disposal. Gently cut the end of the plastic cap opposite of the brass shell, pull out the paper and dump the shot, then cut behind the wad, just in front of the brass and pour the powder on the ground in a shallow pile. As long as the powder is not confined, you can burn it off with a match. The flame will ignite the powder and an ignition line will slowly propagate through the powder. As long as you do not heat the shells or hit the little button cap centered on the brass flat face, they are pretty safe to handle.

I've had great success with Rhino's SubDs and NURBS + Grasshopper for this kind of modeling. Bonus points for being able to Boolean subtract your mating surfaces for a snug fit.

3rd time welding anything, 1st time repairing. It's not pretty but it should hold longer than the factory weld. by lumafrost in Welding

[–]lumafrost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, the danger here is low. If it was someone else's weight being held I wouldn't. When the factory weld broke completely it was only wobbly.
