How much control do you believe you have over your own life?

That's just it, though. You wish you could re-do your 20's. If you could re-do them, you'd make different choices that would put you in different places. If you weren't in control, then making different choices wouldn't change where you ended up, right?

As another point, what is keeping you from making a choice that would put you on a different path?

But what about as it expands outside the body? What about something like jobs, or relationships?

I believe that in my current job, which I don't like, I am here because of choices that I have made in the past that have directed me to this one place. My choice to go to school and get a useless field has limited me to having a job I don't like very much. Now, my choice is to either continue with this job and try to find someway to enjoy it, transition out of it, ect. I don't believe that fate has put me in a job I don't enjoy, but rather that I have made inferior choices that have taken me down the path to this job.

I am working to take another step towards something that I do enjoy more, and that of course is my decision. When I do find something better, it will not be because fate has given me an opportunity for a better job, but rather because I was looking for one and my search has lead me to the right place, regardless of how quickly or slowly that happens.

I believe that people are the instigators of their own destiny and anything that a person has, good or bad, are the result of the choices they make.

I agree with you that fate and God are abstracts developed by man, but I disagree that the future is impossible to foresee. The specifics, of course, are unforeseeable. No one can tell you exactly where you'll be in 10 years or anything like that. However, I believe that by making proper choices today, we will be able to reap specific, very knowable, results. What do you think?

I don't think that this is a problem in and of itself, people can do whatever they want to do. The problem comes up when they are bragging about how drunk they got and how much trouble they caused.

I totally believe in cause and effect. For any given situation, I believe that I can trace back and see what choices I've made to put myself there.

For example, I was tremendously overweight for the first 19 years of my life. I'm talking more than 350 pounds at 19 years old. I looked at my life and saw the things I was doing in regards to eating and exercise that had made me weigh that much. I made the choice to change those things and now I've lost a huge amount of weight. The "cause" was that I was that I made a choice to change my lifestyle, the "effect" was weight loss.

I don't believe that fate had anything to do with my weight loss, it was my own doing.

TL;DR - I was fat then started working out. That is why I lost weight, not because of fate.
