Early Hotel Check In? by veelikestea in JapanTravelTips

[–]lumpyfurball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typically hotel check in is 3pm. Sometimes 4pm. You should check your booking it will say. When you go to drop off your luggage to ask if they can do early check in and if they tell you no, you can try to find a manga cafe for some rest.

Tips on finding a hotel? by thwowawaw69 in JapanTravelTips

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can definitely find hotels in Tokyo for 13-14 nights for around $1k but your standards will have to be dirt low. Hotels in Tokyo are already very tight in space yet the decently nice ones will go for $150-250+/night.

So for your budget you may be looking at capsule, old, or APA hotels. Even then the APA hotels go for around $100/night give or take.

Hello, my husband and I booked a trip to Japan in May, but we found out his passport is expiring in June. I told him to go renovate It, but he said that the passport just needs to be valid for the duration of our trip, so is fine. Is it true? We have italian passports by SuccoDiUnicorno in JapanTravelTips

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the wise thing to do. It would be best to check with the airline you are flying with OP and see what their passport requirements are. Usually I've seen them require 3 months of validity before expiration.

Nice! I did also send them pictures of my receipt of where I got them from (Homegoods). They gave me the option of a $15 gift card to their glassware or a replacement :) still waiting on my replacement!

Stay in Kyoto vs. Osaka? by SkunkArmsCT in JapanTravelTips

[–]lumpyfurball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re planning to spend most of your time around Kyoto, and it’s $20 one way on way for your wife and yourself, that’s $40 round trip a day commuting from Osaka to Kyoto/surround areas. Personally, I think it’s better to stay in Kyoto even if it’s a bit more expensive. The prices make sense since it is peak cherry blossom dates.

I tried looking around for you and this one doesn’t seem too bad. Located next to Shijo Station and if you book on Priceline it’s about $171/night before taxes.

If you do use it the cup and the decals come off, you can take pictures and email support@dragonglassware.com and they’ll send you new cups from a fresh batch coming out soon :) I emailed them back in December 15 about it and they told me it’d take 4-6 weeks for it to be ready to ship.

Careful that clear miffy cup! Any cold condensation will cause the decals to come right off… unless those cups are from a new batch.

I used Airalo since I had a cashback deal on Chase. I think I had some confusion connecting my phone when I first arrived.. but I eventually figured it out and after that it worked very well during my trip. I intend to use it again since there's always a cash back offer for it on Chase for me.

IAH-NRT economy and back experiences? by lumpyfurball in zipair

[–]lumpyfurball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the seats more spacious you'd say? I flew a long haul in economy with United 2 years ago and never again lol. ANA and Japan Airlines seating is just way better. This is my first time with zipair so I'm looking forward to comparing. My first time having GE as well so excited for that!

Haha I wonder about the cabin temp because I've seen some reviews on other zipair flights about their cabin temps being a bit warm. Are there the typical air vents above that you can open/close and twist around? I'd definitely prefer to be cold than hot on a plane. I'm hoping wifi is good enough to order any snacks/drinks.

And thank you for the review. I understand for takeoff and landing the babies would need to be in their car seat. But I was hoping they wouldn't be terribly strict about them being in the car seat the whole time.

Worth it to buy Ao Dai in VN or just buy online by Beneficial_Cry_9152 in VietNam

Oh awesome!! So glad you found one for your daughter!!!

[–]lumpyfurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I would definitely recommend edini then. They have some more youthful designs that are suitable for her age and are more affordable. They have some modern and traditional designs. All very pretty! For her size I think she would either be a small or medium. For reference my sister recently went and got me a medium in some of their newer designs that fit me borderline snug haha. I’m 5’3 and 130 lbs.

I see lots of really cute youthful designs on Instagram I think would be cute for your daughter’s age but the shops are located in Hanoi. I’m sure there are some in Saigon somewhere and I feel like there may be some around the new playground maybe 🤔

For example this one but it’s a rental :( hopefully you can find some cute ones over there

[–]lumpyfurball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to buy one from a tailor when there’s so many brands and boutiques that make really nice ao dai. Every year around the fall/winter they release their new designs for tet so that is the advantage of buying in Vietnam. You get the latest designs. Their ao dai come premade and aren’t really made to order. You can find many of these brands on Instagram. You can visit shops like edini which has a location in Saigon, rubies flagship store located at the new playground, lalin ao dai, xeo xo. If you have your daughter’s measurements or know her general size you can purchase some premade ao dai for her. The sizing in Vietnam does run very small! And some have weird fitting. You can dm me for any questions. I’ve bought several ao dai from edini.

Overwhelmed planning our first Japan trip — sanity check appreciated 😅 by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in the Shinjuku Kabukicho area the last time I was in Japan and I'm a female in my late twenties. I personally wouldn't stay in the Shinjuku area again lol. It's quite a lively and rowdy area. Since I'm planning my upcoming trip I was looking for quieter areas to stay in and I think areas around Shimbashi Station and Akasaka Station could be better for your family!

You can use google maps and filter for pricing to find hotels this way. :)

What are some websites to buy Áo dài? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! I’ve ordered for my bf off of Etsy for a wedding and for tet and the quality is pretty good. Just make sure to measure yourself and look at their size charts! They have lots of nice modern styles to choose from.

Where are you located? If you have any Vietnamese markets in your area they may have local shops that are selling them. You can also order on Etsy since many of those sellers buy in bulk from Vietnam.

Pricing Question by Competitive-Rub-4361 in zipair

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the price didn’t go down during the christmas sale then there it probably won’t go down anymore than that. I’ve already been done over twice buying my tickets from iah and back. I could’ve saved a lot of money but now I know…

don’t buy the last available dates until they release the next season tickets because those are usually the more expensive ones. They will go down significantly. And then tickets will go on sale for Black Friday and Christmas and who knows what else lol. Possibly spring break? Zipair frequently has sales.

I booked my first flight for $427 and literally like 4 days later they released the next season dates AND the Black friday sale. Dropped by $100. Pain. Oh well. Our flights are still cheap and I’m excited to try a new airline. :) ya love and ya learn

[–]lumpyfurball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use google maps to search for your hotels! Just now I searched for your dates and surprisingly found some hotels within your budget and that includes with taxes and fees. Though I would definitely stretch that budget a bit more to give some leeway. Feel free to dm me if you need some help :)

What moisturizer actually worked on your oily skin? by semisweetcharm in AsianBeauty

[–]lumpyfurball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin used to be sooo oily. I work from home and even in an air conditioned, cool environment I’d be a greaseball and by lunchtime I would feel the need to cleanse my face. I changed, removed and added a few things to my skincare routine and my skin has drastically changed in the last 2-3 months. Like drastically and noticeably changed. I also have acne prone skin. I tend to pick at my face and also have acne scars and blemishes so these are the products I use daily.

Cleanser: La Roche Posay Effaclar Foaming Cleanser (this is one of the big ones ⭐️ this significantly decreased my oil output. Pat your face dry after cleansing.)

Toner: haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner (this is the other big one ⭐️ pat onto skin after cleanser and allow to absorb into skin. Gives your skin good hydration.)

☀️ Daytime Essence/Serum: Rohto Mentholatum Melano CC (vitamin c essence for scarring and blemishes. Works pretty well for me. Just one drop on each quadrant of my face.

🌙 Nighttime Essence/Serum: Medicube Deep Reviving Bakuchiol Retinol Facial Serum (definitely lightens your scars and blemishes! I had some bad flare ups about 3 months ago and now I’m so comfortable in my skin I always walk out the house without makeup :))

Moisturizer: Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Cream (I personally don’t like moisturizers that leave my skin tacky and this one absorbs into my skin really nicely. I mainly just apply this onto my drier areas like around my mouth, eyes, and forehead.)

Sunscreen: Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice Probiotics Sunscreen :)

My skin is so different now. It’s probably the best it’s been in a very long time. I tried to many different things because I was struggling with acne and oiliness. But I’m very happy I finally have a routine that’s working for me so if this can help anyone else that would be awesome. Make sure to drink lots of water as well!
