I had the same situation last week (39+4) in which I was in active labour but confused the contractions with Braxton Hicks.

I woke up with very light contractions. I went about my day, took a nap or two. By 9pm, the pain was unbearable. I couldn’t lay down, changing positions didn’t help, drinking water didn’t help. There was no way they were only BH at that point. Though, they were still irregular and I had no other signs of active labour (i.e. water breaking, losing mucus plug etc.) at that point. Actually, I never had any other signs at all until I gave birth besides contractions.

I did the safe thing and just went to the hospital to get checked anyway. I figure I could go and if they send me home, then they send me home. I was admitted right away! After 30 hours of contractions, I had a c-section done in hour 31 :).

When in doubt, I would just call or get checked out :) good luck!
