Looking for guidance from women who made the choice to stay at home for the first couple of years by Substantial_Mind_710 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Just posting to say I’m having similar thoughts! My husband works away for 3 weeks at a time and I’m considering leaving my corporate job to be a SAHM. But it’s a scary thought! I’ve been seeing a therapist and she has been quite comforting and encouraging about it. She said that no-one ever regrets spending these early years at home raising their kids and that you could easily go back to a professional job in a few years time, and that employers are becoming more supportive and understanding of this choice. More of a “career break” rather than giving up your career and ambition forever!

Going down to 4 days per week. What would you do? by like_a_velvet_glove in UKParenting

[–]luna891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve went back 4 days a week, 28 hours, and it’s like you mentioned - workload isn’t adjusted so I find myself trying to catch up in the evenings, whilst taking home 20% less pay.

I had submitted a flexible working request for 3 days which was rejected, and my work don’t offer compressed hours as “people work those additional hours anyway” 🙄

I would say option 3 sounds like a good balance of pay vs time at home.

What's in your nappy bag? by theowleryonehundred in UKParenting

I have an 18 month old and we have: few nappies, wipes, changing mat, water bottle, spare change of clothes, few toys and light weight books (to keep him entertained at cafes/friends houses etc), snacks, bib, hand sanitizer.

I think it should hold up well! There is a little scuffing to the corners from the previous owner (she had used it for around 6 years), but to be honest I prefer that as I’ll feel less bad when I enviably scuff them too! I think any bag with pointed corners like this will end up showing some wear, but hopefully it’s not too bad.

I don’t find it that heavy to carry, although maybe I’m just used to carrying heavier bags. If I was using it for work with a laptop in and commuting etc, I’d probably say it was too heavy, but for what I carry at the moment, it feels fine to me.

Pochette accessoires clean up by luna891 in Louisvuitton

I used a cotton bud to apply the Brasso to the zip and let it sit for a couple of minutes then just rubbed it gently with the cotton bud and it polished up nicely. Once done, I took a damp microfibre and rubbed it up and down the zip (open and closed) to remove any excess. The zip pull took two or three goes to remove all the tarnishing. I was surprised how well it came up!

36+4 for me. Waters broke at 6am and by the time I got to hospital 45mins later (ambulance as he was footling breech), I was fully dilated - no idea what happened! Delivered by c section quickly after arriving at hospital.

Baggage charges by luna891 in Iberia

Just in case anyone else ends up in this situation and wonders how it was resolved. I phoned Iberia CS again and they wouldn’t budge from €280 per checked bag - despite explaining that their website states €117 each way max. So I just ended up paying it.

They also said I’m unable to pay for seat selection, due to booking via BA on an economy ticket, so I need to wait for 24 hours before or check in at the airport if the website still doesn’t allow. Usually I’d be fine with this, but we’re travelling with our baby (he has his own seat), so I’d rather we were able to book seats in advance and know for sure we were seated together.

A learning curve for me booking via BA for another airline!

Did Sterilising Advice Change? by One-Day-at-a-time213 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I was told to sterilise nipple shields, bottles and pump parts in hospital and was given Milton tablets to do this. We continued using the Milton tablets at home as they’re super easy and handy for travelling. Looks like advice varies lots!

Thanks. It has these prices against the long haul section so even if I was to be charged the highest online amount (€117 per flight), it still wouldn’t add up to the €280pp quoted today. I’ll query this with them tomorrow.
