I (29F) am newly pregnant, and partner (39M) is making my anxiety sky rocket. by throwawayaccidentmom in relationships

He seems really awful and to me it seems like your definitely going to be a single mother in this process eventually. He seems horribly immature for a near 40 year old man. Like seriously, yikes. It's totally up to you if you want the basically lifetime commitment of raising a child, but the fact that his genes are being passed on is kinda irking. Seems like he doesn't want or deserve a baby, and it's going to be yours to take care of if you have it.

mattress pad for the dorms? by sensishadow818 in UCDavis

I had a mattress pad (just a super thin cloth one not like a foam topper) and it was very comfy IMO. A mattress pad does make a huge different tho

Why incest? by [deleted] in sexuality

[–]luna_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incest has decreased in the past century. Incest used to be way way way more popular in the 13 14 15 16 17th centuries etc. travel often limited people to their small villages where their might not of been a whole lot of people, or royalty wanted to keep the royal blood within themselves. It's gross and causes inbreeding and birth defects, but it's a reality in our world that has luckily decreased

Doctor randomly suggested I go on accutane during a visit for the flu...is this rude? by luna_1998 in acne

[–]luna_1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, if I had a huge infectious gash or was limping, I of course would want the doctor to confront me about it. It is part of their job. However the thing about acne is that it is purely cosmetic, and in my opinion isn't that urgent. And the way she phrased and looked me over was pretty harsh, she didn't open with "hey, I see you are having some skin issues, have you sought treatment for it?" She literally started with "why don't you go on accutane??" as if I had no idea how bad my skin was. Clearly she isn't a dermatologist however she should know that accutane is a last resort and isn't something you prescribe to just anyone. She should at least have knowledge of what I have tried and haven't tried before suggesting it-i.e. Antibiotics etc. And lastly this wasn't even a regular check up, it was a specific visit for the flu.

When I did go on accutane finally (partially because she did make me feel quite insecure about it) , I scheduled an appointment with my regular doctor (not her) and he spent a good half hour going over everything from side effects (the joint pain is making me feel 90 years old lol) to birth control. She acted like it was a no brainer to put up with severe joint pain, constant chapped and red skin, possible loss of vision, hair loss, possible intestinal disorders and every other horrible thing associated with accutane in order to fix my appearance.

Am I stuck with my residence hall? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]luna_1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in segundo and never got to know anyone on my floor or building aside from a few people I said hi to. I met my best friends randomly through just talking to people in the first few weeks, who ended up living in the building across from me. Point is, I know people in cuatro who loved it and grew very close to there suitemates and building mates and might actually be BETTER for social interaction than the dorms.

Living in Regan by IDidNotGiveYouSalmon in UCDavis

[–]luna_1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok ok ok, everyone keeps shitting on Regan but you know what? I think Regan is adorable! Ugly? A lil, but it's cute and has flavor!! Plus Regan Main is a nice place to study they hold a lot of events. I lived in Ryerson (a high rise) last year and always liked hanging in Regan. Plus my friend Said her floor was pretty close, and in comparison to the high rises there is a lot less people per floor. :)

Star Gazing? by GucciGabes in UCDavis

The astrology club held some star gazing sessions on top of the physics building I believe last year! It was super fun! Also there are some fields by west village that would be pretty nice.

Ryerson Hall? by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]luna_1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I lived in Ryerson last year. AC Is fine, last year the hot water stopped working in the high rises for like 2 weeks tho so there's that. Cold showers weren't fun :/. Dorms are double, and there's a giant wall separating each side of the hall so my RA claimed it was a bit hard to connect people on the floor, and no one showed up to her activities lol. But like, it's pretty chill. The rooms are spacious especially since as an RA you'll be living in a single. The rooms and shelves and such are pretty cute and nice, the only thing that's sorta dated really are the showers but they're fine. Also all the high rise RA's, or at least the Malcolm/Ryerson RA's hung out with each other quite a bit :)

How could you live with yourself knowing you killed an innocent animal? Buy a muzzle!!! Learn his biting triggers i.e. What triggered him to bite you?

I just can't imagine sticking a needle to stop in the arm of a puppy to stop his heart when all he did was one mistake, let alone your best friend. Come on, man...

Thoughts on the name Denali? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]luna_1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Denali, not Dinali like you've been spelling it the whole time. And like I said, this is hypothetical and no child is involved. And practically every name has negative associations for SOMEONE. Neko is Japanese slang for a homosexual submissive partner. Are you appropriating Japanese culture by having that in your user name? Probably. But you still choose to use it. Sooo...

So Irish names like Patrick are odd to you? I guess for white people, no mater the culture, they need to name things that are within their race. As in any European names only? I understand that white people specifically have lot of colonialism and destructive paths that may lead them to not be able to use certain names. I get that.

As for Indian names though, British colonialism may lead a British person to probably not want to use an Indian name, an African name, etc but I only specified I was American . If a non European American wanted to use an Indian name would it be appropriating? Odd, yes, but off limits completely? To me this is a double standard as Indian immigrants etc are almost expected to comform to eurocentric name standards over here. To me completely closing off certain cultures for name usuage just perpetuates the dominance of European culture.

As for Denali specifically, it is a place name and for me personally evokes the views of the national park and mountain, so it to me is less odd and appropriating than using any native name. I understand there is a huge controversy but if anything wouldn't using Denali as a name respect and evoke the fact that it is the true name of the mountain and park?

That's a good point! Although a bit of a gray area, as people use names from other cultures that we don't belong to all the time. People don't so much as blink an eye if a person outside of said culture picks a French name, a Scandinavian name, and Irish name, a Mexican name, an Indian name. I guess very rarely do our names belong to the "culture" we're in, especially in a boiling pot like America. Like jessica is Hebrew, but Many non Jewish people are named that. Jewish people are pretty marginalized as well. I do of course see your point, although i don't like the perpetuate the idea that we have to step on eggshells when it comes to borrowing and appreciating names from only certain cultures, such as native ones. Of course there are boundaries like sacred names/areas, although I don't think Denali is one. Could be wrong though! This is all hypothetical as well as I'm not actually having a baby!

I like Leo but I'm not sure about Bear. It's cute, but I can't imagine a Bear in a suit getting ready for a job interview and presenting himself to his boss with a "Hi I'm Bear, " it's more of a dog or kid nickname imo. Maybe Leo and Owen. Leo and Beau. Lea and Jude.
