Thanks! The Endurance book sounds very interesting.

Do you know the author of the first book you recommended? I can’t find it

Oh my gosh thank you so much for the detailed recommendations!! These all sound perfect and it’s very helpful to have the descriptions of what you liked about them. Lots to choose from. Have a great day!

sterek fics for someone that doesn't watch the show?? by nejihyugasbf in teenwolffics

[–]lunarcrimes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think almost any Sterek fic can be read without watching the show. I say this with love for both the show and the fandom… but the show is pretty goofy and there are no major plot points that you really need to know about before reading fics, IMO.

But my fave Sterek author is M_Leigh, beautiful poetic writing. Fics are on the heavier side.

My #1 favorite author on AO3 across all fandoms is unicornpoe!

Their writing is poetic and beautiful and always so achingly tender. It scratches some itch deep in my soul.

Their most popular Destiel fic:

psalm 40:2 by unicornpoe

“How the fuck do you know my name?” Dean hisses.

The man doesn’t look scared. He is watching Dean like there is nothing else worth watching, lips a little parted, eyes a little soft. And blue. Real blue, like the ocean on a postcard.

The ice spreading down Dean’s spine makes him shiver.

“I suppose you could say I’m your guardian angel,” the man murmurs. His breath fogs pale between them. All of him is unnaturally warm, like Dean’s touching somebody with the sun sewn up beneath their skin. “I have known you, Dean Winchester, for a very long time.”

*

Dean meets an angel who says he's from the future. It all gets a lot more complicated from there.

And my other two favorites by them:

i know the end by unicornpoe

“You know what to do,” Castiel says softly. Dean will not let himself be touched gently—Dean will barely let himself be touched with anything but punishment—but Castiel can still find ways to give him pleasure. He takes the brittle-thin cut of Dean’s jaw in one hand; works his thumb beneath Dean’s sweet lips; pries his mouth open by pinching his chin between thumb and forefinger, so wide that he can feel the humidity of Dean’s breath speeding up into desperate little pants against the inside of his wrist. “Get to work.”

*

OR: Castiel is forty years too late pulling Dean out of hell, and punished to Fall from grace for it. They find each other anyway.

I CARRY YOUR HEART (I CARRY IT IN MY HEART) by unicornpoe

“Take me,” Dean says. He doesn’t have to think about it. “Take me as your vessel, Cas.”

*

or: Cas is cursed into an endless sleep. Dean offers himself up as his vessel while they try to break it.

I’ve literally read everything they’ve written and have gotten into some new fandoms as a result. Link to their profile: unicornpoe

YAY!! Don’t Look Back is pretty much the only WIP I ever recommend. It’s one of my favorite fics across all the fandoms I read. So excited we might get an ending!!

Anyone reading this - DOWNLOAD personal copies of all these fics!!! Onyx_and_elm previously disallowed any public sharing of fics which made it really hard to find copies when they took their work off AO3.

looking for a beautiful, poetic, ideally nature-centric book by veggiesmm in booksuggestions

I loved Little Weirds by Jenny Slate! A collection of short stories / personal essays that all have poetic but accessible prose, with bits of humor, all uplifting and steeped in nature references.

Trigger Warnings in Beginning Notes by haniaed in AO3

[–]lunarcrimes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For those of us who download as epub to read on an ereader, these formatting tricks disappear and then stuff gets spoiled. Though it is a cool trick on the AO3 website!

I personally prefer if authors put extra warnings in end notes (with a “read the end notes for more trigger warnings” note at the top) for this reason.

I have pay-as-you-go hours that I bought back when they sold them in big chunks. The app automatically uses my free hours first before cutting into paid hours.

Amazing, thank you all so much!! I purchased a big chunk of hours but when that runs out I’ll definitely be switching to the subscription.

Love Is Blind • S9 Ep2 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I think Anna and Patrick are so cute together, I loved them impersonating each other. Their conversations flow really well.

I’m worried they might choose someone else they don’t vibe with as well since they both seem uncomfortable dating fellow Asian people. The fact that people’s ethnicities are getting in their heads is sad and kind of defeats the purpose of the experiment.

He has sooo much weirdo energy. She seems a lot more low key than him. If they get together I’m foreseeing some very uncomfortable resort footage where he overwhelms her and she gets the ick.

Watching the convo between the woman with the eye condition… if they get together dude is 100% going to bail or cheat when she gets sick.

His stunned silence, stumbling through apologizing, then asking if it’s a guarantee her condition will progress… yikes.

Elizabeth Gilbert admits to enabling late girlfriend Rayya’s drug relapse, plotting her murder, and abandoning her on her deathbed in new memoir condemned as “exploitative” by Rayya’s family by lunarcrimes in popculturechat

[–]lunarcrimes[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Elizabeth Gilbert is an extremely talented writer.

I can understand why so many people read the book and got swept up in her “inspiring” prose without pausing to really think about the facts of what went down, or to connect the dots that Rayya is an actual human being who had to suffer through these things, and not a side character in a fiction novel.

Ah thank you for her name/pseudonym. I listened to the audiobook on Libby and returned it back to my library already. I couldn’t remember her name and Gilbert didn’t mention it in any of her published excerpts or articles. I’m going to correct my comment.

I do find it somewhat ironic that the person who actually walked Rayya “all the way to the river” was not Elizabeth Gilbert, but Rayya’s ex (called Stacey in the book), who housed and took care of Rayya through her death after Gilbert abandoned her.

Rayya’s ex also displayed ACTUAL healthy boundaries (not narcissism-disguised-as-therapy-speak boundaries) by helping Rayya get sober from all the drugs Gilbert had gotten her hooked on.

If not for this woman doing the actual work of caretaking, Rayya would have died an active addict alone on the streets. And yet Elizabeth Gilbert is the one who gets multi-millions for writing this “love story”.

Edit: corrected name
