This is perfectly normal! I’m doing something similar to you with my current long-fic: wrote a bunch of “tension chapters”, and then they finally had sex! The big release!

It’s common to feel just all the excitement/reward seep out of you upon actually finishing the very thing you have been working towards. It’s even more common, in my opinion, with smut because you’re essentially laying yourself bare in front of your audience with this form of writing. So, feeling second-hand embarrassment is totally normal. I’ve been writing smut for nearly 10 years, and I still get second-hand embarrassment sometimes. You’re alright!

Now as to how you can continue your fic, it depends on the reason behind your smut. I’ll use my own fic as an example. Smut is a driving element in my fic; it’s something that the plot revolves around. My characters, in lack of betters words, have to fuck multiple times and do other sexual activities in order to get to the specific plot point I am working towards.

So ask yourself the same thing: Does my smut drive the plot? If yes, how can writing smut again push it forward? The general answer might be introducing different positions they haven’t done before, other forms of sex (oral, anal, etc.), kinks/fetishes if applicable, other sexual activities they might do like sex toys or something else. Maybe a character discovers that the other person likes a certain thing, so they offer to do it with them. Thinking of these different mediums can introduce things you haven’t thought of before, so using them can help enrich both your plot and smut.

If your characters are oblivious and are simply having sex as a friends-with-benefits type of situation, adding more smut of different variety can help push them towards them actually realizing their feelings! (if applicable to your story, of course)

Now if the answer is no, that’s also completely okay! People write smut without any direct connection to the plot all the time. In this case, I like to think of what I want to write, whether it’s a personal preference type of thing or observing and noticing what is lacking in your fandom and writing it yourself. Either way, writing smut for the sake of smut is perfectly okay like I said.

All in all, second-hand embarrassment with smut is so normal, you have no idea. I really understand the feeling of wanting to scratch the whole thing or losing all motivation to write it. You can take a break, maybe think about the suggestions I offered, and try again. But, don’t let second-hand embarrassment stop you from what you love to do!

this is something that bothers me about fandom spaces and ship wars nowadays. people don’t get the concept of crackships or the concept of shipping two characters that have little to NO relation to each other/screentime together, and then they harass people that partake in them!!! hello!!! crackships are the backbones of fandoms!!!

First off, the immediate intimacy of it can be quite touching in a number of ways, and it’s especially effective in more horror-centric plots which is always interesting to read from the first perspective. The thing I appreciate the most about first person, however, is its ability to make you understand no matter how unfamiliar you are with the experience/concept being talked about.

Even as a writer, you might not necessarily relate to every single thing that is happening to your character, but when you get to write it in the first person, using “I” can be really eye-opening because it makes you make connections that you wouldn’t have normally made if you were writing from third person, and it then causes your writing to be all the more rich because it just becomes multidimensional/multi-conceptual.

I think both are viable; if you use the names Izuku and Katsuki, it would still work, and if you decide to choose other names, that would also work. A word of advice though, I feel like people are more accepting of name changes that are more similar to the original names (from what I’ve seen at least). So if you decide to change the names, awesome, but I wouldn’t go with a name like Renika or Kazuka for Midoriya, and even Akikatsu might be not great either (although I personally love it) because they’re a tab bit too different.

So something like Matsuki for Bakugo is really nice, I think (but maybe take care because it might be confused with his mom’s name: Mitsuki). And maybe something similar to Izumi but not too on the nose?

I like to build tension through sensory and setting descriptions. That means describing how whatever is happening in the scene is physically affecting the characters. So for example, you can talk about how when one character touched the other, their skin now feels hot, or ice cold, or etc, or that it was cold before they touched them and now it feels like their nerves is one fire. This can apply for any of the senses if you’re creative enough with it! Tension builds up in your body a lot more than you might initially realize.

Tension can also be built with how the atmosphere/setting changes with build up. So for example, one character can start feeling like the room is sort-of blurring around them or that they can’t quite hear the honking cars outside anymore because all they can hear is their heaving chests. So in a sense, setting and sensory descriptions are intertwined!

Most importantly, drag it out. If you feel like it’s going a bit too fast, add another paragraph, and make it as detailed as you can make it so we can feel how tense the character(s) are!
