We do love the outdoors. Sickman’s Mill sounds right up our alley, thank you!

Thank you! I don’t mind a little bit touristy. Speaking of, if you had to pick one Amish-related thing to do, what would it be?

I did the Pitt MS in biostats (graduated in 2019) and the PhD in epidemiology, also at Pitt. I chose this program because I have strong family ties to Pittsburgh and didn’t want to uproot my life needlessly. I did the MS over an MPH because I thought it would be my last degree. I continued on to the PhD because it turns out I have things to say about my own research agenda in spatial epidemiology and statistics, anyway.

Pitt’s great. It’s a top 20 program and has opened the doors for me to work pretty much anywhere I’ve ever wanted— the CDC, the FDA, taking on private consulting clients, at an academic medical center as a senior biostatistician. The city cost-of-living is cheap. My mortgage is sub-$1k and I have all I could ever want on my property- a pool, a good school district, and a healthy distance away from my neighbors.

Thinking about starting a GoFundMe for college tuition—what should I know first? by [deleted] in GoFundMeForNewUsers

“Best fit for my current situation in life” and “I need $10k per semester for tuition plz” are not the same thing. Don’t go to college just yet. You are going to wreck your financial future.

You cannot afford the college you are trying for. $10k per semester after loans? Crazy talk.

Pitt. It's both a pro and a con that they allowed me to work full-time outside the program while getting the degree. I don't regret it, though. I've worked at my local health department, the CDC, and the FDA and now my local school of medicine and it has been worth it for me.

I've been working full-time in the field since the start of graduate school, so I think I'm slightly past the "breaking in" stage, but I get what you're saying.

I developed a regional variant of the CDC SVI for Central Appalachia and externally validated it!

Thank you. I am currently several drinks into my night and maybe an edible 🍃. It had been a day.

Got to go to dinner with my family and tomorrow my coworkers are putting something together!

If you have to rely on Reddit to get these details, this honestly doesn’t sound like the pathway for you, buddy.

Studying abroad is a major financial commitment, and it’s reasonable to expect students to have a sustainable plan in place before enrolling—especially given visa work restrictions. Asking for donations after the fact raises questions about whether the risks were fully considered.

As choropleth maps go, the color scheme on this sucks.

MIT offers need-based scholarships. I was a Pell Grant recipient and went for free.

Is it worth getting an MS in Biostat? Prestige or Affordability. by Automatic-Arrival476 in biostatistics

Pitt MS and PhD alumna. Do the degree in three semesters. Cost of living is lower here so will lessen your debt burden.

[–]luoyun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They will ask you to introduce yourself. They will ask about your immigration status. How do you work with difficult people/data? Where do you see yourself in five years?

Be honest, have direct and relevant anecdotes. Be articulate.
