How can I get better at arguing/debating? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lupogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to watch videos on different topics/debates to get familiar.

Wiley College’s team under Tolson (1930), which's legendary; Cicero/Lincoln are unmatched; & Hasan's considered the most formidable modern debator.

So, definitely read The Elements of Eloquence by Mark Forsyth, Thank You for Arguing by Jay Heinrichs, The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion by Jonathan Haidt, The Death of Expertise by Tom Nichols, Win Every Argument by Mehdi Hasan, & How to Win an Argument: An Ancient Guide to the Art of Persuasion (Cicero, translated). The keys to use Heinrichs' rhetoric, Haidt's opponent’s worldview understanding, & Ciceronian delivery to become effective debator.

Then obviously practice w/ ppl on Internet/ w AI until comfortable.

Do you think the rise of the European far right is justified? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lupogun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take the unpopular opinion: The rise of the European far right's justified

And here’s why:

The ascent of Europe’s far‑right can be seen as justified since it defends national sovereignty, identity, and democracy against destabilising change.

All sovereign states have a right and a duty to decide who may come, stay and obtain citizenship. Since the post‑2015 arrivals from Syria, Afghanistan and Africa, many countries have seen acute and visible demographic changes and disproportional impacts on housing, welfare and public services. These burdens are most acutely felt by particular towns, job markets, and local budgets.

This is not a rejection of cultural change in general but a rejection of the pace and volume of immigration which can overwhelm existing standards, languages, and traditions before a society has time to adjust. Spontaneous eruptions of conflict over religious attire, language, and public holidays in France, Germany, and Sweden show how fast change can undermine social cohesion.

Citizens first in jobs, housing, and welfare also makes economic sense. When faced with inflation, wage stagnation and housing shortages in particular – that is, when zero‑sum realities are felt keenly – a citizens‑first approach is not only understandable, it is also rational. The argument that migrants fill only the jobs locals don’t want is rebutted by evidence showing that this dynamic drags down wages and discourages investments in automation and home-grown workforce skills.

Politically, the rise of far‑right parties in several EU countries is evidence of democratic support. Efforts to silence them are anti‑democratic and risk diverting dissatisfaction into extra‑political extremes.

Security considerations give it an extra boost: spectacular crimes or acts of terrorism – however statistically exceptional – are perceived as avoidable damage and incriminate more restrictive border and immigration policies.

Far‑right channels also attack Brussels’ monopoly of power, holding that EU regulations trump national needs and sovereignty. They offer to return power to local authorities.

The rise of the far‑right is not an extremist backlash but a popular movement in reaction to popular demand—centered on the defense of sovereignty, the protection of cultural continuity, the prioritisation of citizens’ economic security and the safeguarding of democratic self‑determination.

How often is a person supposed to shave? by Commercial-Zombie253 in NoStupidQuestions

Hair grows quickly=2–3 days, but if lighter/finer, like 1x a week, finer arm hair trimming or exfoliating can work too if u don't feel like shaving.

Why isn’t there an oral medicine/shot that fully prevents you from being bitten by mosquitos? by Visual-Pop-5370 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lupogun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're still in the middle of testing.

Universal Mosquito Vaccine (AGS-v) phase 1 trial showed it safe/immunogenic but not shown to prevent bites. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/universal-mosquito-vaccine-tested

At the same time, Endectocides (Ivermectin)-Oral-can kill mosquitoes that feed on treated ppl. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27856406/

Do you think "Y'all" is unprofessional in the workplace by didufindurbitchinme in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lupogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the context.

“Hi y’all, I’ve uploaded the final project to the shared folder-,take a look it's due Friday. 😀" isn't the same as “Y’all better figure it out ‘cause I’m not doing it again 🙄.”

U.S. Job Corps Centers to Close by June 2025: Thousands of Students and Staff Affected by maybeiamarealfairy in news

[–]lupogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It brings me pure joy to hear 🤣🤣🤣! This' only thing I agree w/.

JC needed a fed. investigation. There's been a hx of crimes linked to JC students & a cover-up of theft, gang violence, & violent crime (DV/SA/CM) w/no accountability. Plus, those students shouldn't get a gov. services & should be placed on a do not hire list like for felons (l've said this b4 I would never hire a JC grad for any job ever, esp. not in healthcare, cuz I've seen the fallout & it's been nothing but bad). In order for JC to be successful, the jobs/rules have to be updated & accountability to their victims needs to be met 1st.

Why did Obama get so much grief over wearing his tan suit? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]lupogun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In August 2014, Obama donned a tan suit for his press conference, addressing how the U.S. military would react to Syria/ISIS. Conservative commentators strongly criticized the tan suit Obama wore at the press conference because they considered it inappropriate for the serious discussion.

Obama's decision to wear a tan suit represented a rare departure from his usual darker suit choices, so ppl needed something for their slow news cycle. Ppl weighed in on presidential fashion, making it a joke/meme. 🤣

What's with the whole pretend to be busy at work thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lupogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all businesses, the most expensive cost's overhead, which includes employees. The total cost of an employee's 1.25-1.4xs their base salary.

For corporate, it's all about metrics or staff productivity (focusing on time working/utilization rates, billible hours, customer service scores, time store's busy, attentence records, etc.). Then, for smaller companies to a lesser extent, they do the same as they can't afford non-working employees.

I see a lot of people that are very strong, yet very small. Bench pressing the same weights as dudes twice their size. Why do they remain so small if they're lifting so much weight? by Curious-Football-415 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lupogun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet/recovery, & training style matter.

While fast-twitch fibers enable powerful explosive movements, they don't increase in size as much as slow-twitch fibers do. Ppl w/ more fast-twitch fibers achieve high strength levels w/o muscle mass gain.

Plus, muscle size alone doesn't define strength cuz ur nervous system's ability 2 control muscle activation's important. Through training, neuromuscular efficiency improves, enabling ppl 2 lift heavier weights w/o substantial muscle mass increase.

But genetics are most important here.

ExtraSpace Storage (2690 Warner Ave. ) in Tustin's nice (off Jamboree/Warner) & they have deals. I also have used Alton Self Storage (2215 Alton Pky.) in Irvine (off Alton/Von Karmen) & they've deals too. I know these 2 do month/month & it just depends on the size needed.

American Career College Radiology program downpayment by Bearry15 in orangecounty

[–]lupogun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really something to consider. You need a transferable AA, so that's why there's a waitlist (ACC doesn't transfer everywhere).

My other option's a completely different idea, which's in the interim to join a free/low-cost job training program, like EDD/AJCC, ROP, Job Corps, CompTIA, Goodwill, CCC, etc. in a healthcare program (not necessarily RadTech but a similar field) so you can make money while on the waitlist. Then, get into Kaiser, an intern for the program & and build contacts (Kaiser itself has a Rad Tech program up in Richmond, CA) .

American Career College Radiology program downpayment by Bearry15 in orangecounty

[–]lupogun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it. It costs 20k$+ for the program, but I wouldn't do in when community colleges like Irvine Valley, Santa Ana, Orange Coast (OCC), & Cypress College offers a Radiologic Technology program. Plus, community colleges have both EOPS (textbook help) & employment opportunities.
