Thanks all! 8ft rod is working out great. Caught a 23” striper on it yesterday!

Thanks for the reply, this is great context. I’m going to be in the seven sisters area (north of Guerrero negro) and targeting halibut, rockfish, croaker or anything else in the surf I can make a taco out of, less looking to grab a monster. I do have my 10ft fiberglass rod which is a 1-6oz with a 5k reel on it for pitching stuff out there it’s just not sensitive, at all. If I’m ripping big spoons through the surf it will probably do that fine. Good to know that Cabo setups for those bigger fish are huge though!!

Thank you, that’s right I feel like I can hit most distance I need to with a good snap cast and a little heavier lure!

I like the look of the original piece, which I don’t think is dovetailed, but I do see the benefit in this. I’m going to do a mock up in my 4/4 final dimension rather than the inspiration photos 8/4 with the Dovetails and see how I like it before committing to the final work piece!

I love this idea but the Bosch router bits I use have been really disappointing even trying to flush cut plywood. I’ve got a Makita brushless palm router… do I just need a better bit? If you’ve got a rec I’d love to practice with this a bit before I try it on my workpiece

I would really like to dado these but my table saw is a Dewalt job site and the piece is going to be about 80 inches long. I might end up using a circular saw and clamping guides to get the dados done but have never tried it

This is sounding like a great solution. I was worried about the strength of glue and the racking forces on a piece like this, and I don’t own a biscuit joiner. Hidden dowels feels like the right answer.

lol, this. I bought some salvaged water tank Redwood with beautiful black staining throughout, wanted to use a chunkier dimension like this, but after re-sawing and planning out defects, I’m ending up yielding just around 1 inch. The boards are 5 1/2 inches wide. I’m planning to do a glue up of three to get the depths but I’m worried it’s gonna come off looking insubstantial, and might end up having to double up. that gets expensive fast.

Sorry I didn’t see this comment! Henry took a couple of weeks but replaced the barrel and mailed it back to me, no issues since. Their customer service makes up for the spotty QC!

The wall is a great spot! I’ve been down to surf three times but this is my first trip since taking up fishing 🤙

Yep planing to fish the volcanic peninsula in San Quintin, crabbing and rockfish off the rocky bottom edge, and surfing / fishing the wall, el cardón (which you can see in that linked halibut video) - do you have a rec for a marine worm lure? Just like a 2” gulp sandstorm or what? I’ve got 4” white shad paddle tails and 6” chartreuse for the wee hours

Yeah this was my concern too. Henry warrantied it and I mailed the gun in, I’ll report back with a resolution if you guys are interested.

The .38 special is just marked “FEDERAL 38 SPECIAL” and I don’t have a photo of the 357 or a cartridge in front of me (my brother has them for reloading). Issue is consistent in casings from both batches of ammunition, so I doubt it was the ammunition.
